Crank Pulley Fell apart!!
So, after hydrolocking my motor 6 months ago, buying the 402, and saving every dollar for supporting mods, i finally had the cash to go pick her up from the shop( which will remane un-named so no blame will be on them), drove 150 miles home and i start hearing an on-and-off rattle coming from the motor, pull over to hear it, and it is LOUD! get to the house and quickly find that the pulley is seperating from itself. Pics at bottom of page!!
Anyone else have a similar experience?

I don't know 150 miles is a long drive. I doubt the mechanic would have seen that coming.... but anything is possible. I would think if the balancer was showing signs of failure, it wouldn't make it 150 miles. But hell, I could be wrong. LOL

I've actually seen this happen on a few occasions with both underdrive pulleys and stock. We actually had a customer lose a 402 to bearing failure due to a used underdrive pulley coming apart on a Vette. He thought he had a bad belt because of the squeal. The car threw the belt a couple of times before he finally brought it in. I noticed the pulley had come apart and was just spinning on the hub. From that point forward, I will only warranty a motor if it leaves here with an ATI.

It puzzles me when I see racers spend $10K+ on a motor and then stick the stock (sometimes 100K miles) damper on it. :wtf: They won't spend an extra $400 for a nice ATI damper.
I have ATI's on the three of my cars that have significantly more power than stock and see occasional hard use.

honestly im not sure the brand of the pulley, and there were warning signs of it coming apart, all the rubber gunk was slung around the engine bay, hood, sway bar, i just thought it was dried grease. but ignorance is no excuse.
