Default Putting together my l92 short block for my camaro...critique my list of parts.

I am putting together my motor for my camaro as the title says. I am not trying to go high dollar on it but not cheap either. I want it to last a lil while until I get my turbo motor built.

Here is my list of short block parts:

TSP ported oil pump
ARP harmonic balancer bolt
ARP l92 head bolt kit
ARP main stud kit
ls7 lifters
ls2 timing set
Katech rod bolts

My engine builder is putting in durabond cam bearings and clevite main and rod bearings and hellfire rings.

Tell me if I am missing something and if there is an issue with something I chose please let me know.

you already have ARP rod bolts and ARP head bolts, they are reusable- the stockers are not. What heads and head gaskets? what pistons? What crank?

I'm assuming its a stock bottom end ls2/lq9?

what is your PN on the L92 head bolts...didn't know their was a specific L92 bolt kit thought it was just 2004 + blocks or 2003 and older blocks.

are these sdparts L92's or stock L92's?

cam?

Craig, I would have to resize the rod if I reuse the rod bolts out of the ls1. Plus I blew that motor up and there was metal everywhere. I am not using anything out of that motor. The headbolts are different. 04 and up are different headbolts. I have the L92 heads and they are going to get sent off to TSP to be ported and get a set of hollow valves. I am looking at a set of Cometics for the headgasket. I am using the stock pistons and crank.

Yes this a stock bottom end L92 motor out of a 08 Escalade. You are right it is 04 and up for the headbolts but I just called them l92 because TSP labels them ls2,ls3,l92 headbolts. The heads are stock L92's but they are going to get the treatment just like the heads you bought from TSP.
In your previous thread I put that my cam would be the one from EPS (board sponsor) 230/246 600/607 113

what kind of metal? where did the metal come from? Great set of heads, and the crank is OK, but why reuse the pistons?

that's right forgot about the other thread.

I can't wait to get mine running...any idea on your ETA for yours?

there aren't to many L92 setups out there that are stock bottom end or stock cubes.

I had the car tuned on the dyno for a 2 stage.100 for the first and 200 wet shot for the second with the ls1 motor and everything was ok. No knock put down 558 to the wheels. Went to No Problem Problem Raceway and went 10.68 but blew the motor and when I felt it go I let off the bottle and pedal and that was at the 1000 ft mark so it was going to go low 10's. Pulled the motor out and found the windage tray torn up and rods 5 and 6 the bearings had piggy backed on top of each other and it bent the valves in the heads. In the end there was metal everywhere so I decided to not use anything out of the motor. Only maybe the cam, pushrods and a few other things.

The crank is done too. Too much scarring to turn it and its not even worth the money doing so when you can get a new one. I am selling the heads to my cousin he can use them with the cathedral ports. I now have the L92 heads that came with the motor I bought. I am reusing the stock pistons because I am building the motor just like the one that came out of the car just with more cubes(stock crank, rods, and pistons just aftermarket rings and bearings). Also no one makes a 4.065 bore forged piston except for Diamond and its 700.00 for those pistons. I am doing this on a budget and a 200 shot works fine on stock pistons.

Mine won't be up and running until maybe next year. I still haven't sent the heads off to TSP. I am waiting on my engine builder to finish up 2 other motors to start on mine. So I am just getting started.

Well if there aren't that many stock cube or stock bottom end L92's I guess I will be one of the few.

We have a local guy down here with a GTO with a cam bigger than mine and ported LS3's and a fast intake and he is running 11.0 at 123 and the car is full weight, nothing taken out. and it went 10.30 on a 100 shot. I watched it go 11.30 in 95 degree heat with 95% humidity on an August day. I hope to run close to what he is doing being that I am lighter.
