I say it's cheap insurance. Although it wasn't included in the package when my cam/FI went in a few weeks ago, two of my requirements were a new timing set and a high-flow oil pump.

I'd rather spend the $140 now than who knows what later. Especially if a problem arose that wouldn't have happened had those small supporting mods not been skipped in the interest of saving a few bucks. You could probably get by on the stock pump, and may even ride around on it for thousands of miles....but ya neeeeeeever know.

Do it right the first time so you don't have to do it twice.

I was wondering this too, why would a cam swap make a difference, i understand if its a race car going to the track every week.

2006 C6 Corvette MN6 Z51 - LS2 motor

Oil pressure seems normal, startup 44lbs, up to full op temp a little over 30lbs at idle (650rpm's) running in in the upper rpm's will get the pressure to 60lbs +

You can spend the money for a new pump If you want to but it is not necessary...I would go ahead and get a new LS2 timing chain but the timing gears set is still good no need to replace them....the LS1s that had oil pump issues were built back in 1997-2000..your 06 is good to go.

Thanks man!
I was going to spend the extra money on a Katech chain but many people told me just get a new LS2 chain so I will.
The cam I picked out is only a little nasty anyway not a biggen by any means but it does have a bit of lift to it!

If you have a 2000 LS1 and still have the original pump you might want to think about replacing it....I do not remember when GM started using the LS6 pump in all the motors...probably 2001..just get a new pump and a LS2 timing chain and you will be good to go..
