Default 408 on a budget questions

In order to build a 408 on a budget what is the best way to go about it? Should I find an iron block in a junkyard and then buy all the internals myself or should I just buy a shortblock from one of the sponsors like Texas Speed or HKE?

I bet trying to do it all yourself will not be much cheaper than just buying a short block.

NA 'street' LS2 403 build - "From Crate to Dyno" ( 1 2 3 4 5 ... Last Page)

Read this Thread and then I think you would consider buying built Short Block from a sponsor to the right. It's only for your benefit in the long run IMHO! And CHEAPIER when its all said and done!!

its cheaper to do it yourself as i did. but not by a ton, almost worth the extra cost to avoid the headach sometimes, just depends on your skills and resources.

Just buy a Junk yard iron block and do it yourself. I have a LQ9 block sitting on the floor of my buddies shop that I only paid $300.00 for it at a junk yard. Or you could do like these guys and buy a built short block from a sponser. It would cost more money but as stated before you wouldn't have to deal with building it yourself!!

The engine block work, it can't be done without some very expensive equipment. Now assembly i'm sure anyone here could bolt together a shortblock after some reading.

However in most cases the impression I have of "build it yourself" means a flexhone, ridge reamer and some wire brushes. Which don't seam to last long.

The decks we see on some new blocks arn't straight how do you think they're with 100,000 miles on them?

We have 408 shortblocks starting from $2999;
Theirs many machine shops around, most do OE repairs, we have a blueprint we machine into LS blocks, that we've found works properly with
forged crankshaft, H bearings, piston to wall clearance, have specific stones and pressure we use in the hone for steel rings, for example.
