Very odd Oil Pressure issue with new LQ9.
My friend just finished up his swap and we've discovered an odd, and troubling problem with is engine.
When the car is first started the oil pressure is about 65lbs cold, as the car warms up it drops abit as it should. But then within minutes the oil pressure will nose dive quickly, eventually approaching 0lbs. The first time it happened we were doing a drive around the block and got it back to the garage, the lifters were clacking so we shut it off immediately.
5 minutes later we started the car to see what was up and we had full oil pressure again. But the process repeated and oil pressure started dropping rapidly within minutes again so we shut it down and left it.
Recently we tested a theory. When the pressure drops, if you shut the car off and immediately start it again (within seconds) the pressure is back up to normal 45-65 idle, and up to 80lbs with revs.
This process is repeatable.
We haven't put a mechanical gauge on it, but being that we heard the lifters clacking the one time when it was indicating low oil pressure I'm sure its a mechanical issue vs something electrical with the gauge.

the o-ring on the oil pickup is out of alignment. This allows air to go by and you loose pressure. Take off the oil pan and widen the mount holes on the pickup to give yourself some adjustability.

^^Its not about the block, it's about the pick-up and pan. If you're running the truck pickup tube, you need the truck o-ring. If you're running the car tube, you need the car o-ring.

Ok, a little update on this. I tore it all apart...o ring looks perfect...pump seems to be in perfect working order, spring is nice and strong.
I will replace the 0-ring...again...and see what happens..of course i dropped the bolt in the pan, so need to fish that out or try to drag it to the drain hole with a magnet.
Should i go ahead and replace the cam retaining plate? Not sure what else to do...thanks!

Watch this video. It will show you towards the middle so you can get a visual. This is common. Let me know if this fixes it.

Little update on this....tore it all back apart...removed the pan completely...way easier to do the pump that way...cleaned pan, pickup, new pump and o ring.
Fired it up...great pressure...shut if off to assemble the rest of the front.... Fired it up....lower pressure but still around 40-50... Starts to drop again....shut it off right away.
Car was not exactly level...leveled it out..checked oil level...0 pressure now...even have a mechanical gauge at the filter...0 pressure.
Any thoughts? Oil passage clogged? I remove the filter and crank it...no oil from there....
Not sure what else to check..thanks

Any new action on this. I can't say my problem is exactly the same but something tells me the issues are connected. I completed install on my LQ9, fired it up and drove it about 5 miles before the ticking started. Lifters failed. Checked pressure using HP tuner and it was at about 28. Replaced the lifters, fired it up and started to take it for another run. Got it less then a mile down the road and its ticking again. Short of giving all the specs and details, I just wanted to see where you are with your problem because I think we have a lot of similiarities.
