LS1 to L92 conversion...advice?
I'm planning to get an L92 block, cam, heads, and timing system and rebuild pretty much everything else. I may keep the crank but I don't know yet. I've been told the "magic" combination with this engine is the L92 block, L92 heads, with and LS9 intake so that everything fits under the hood properly. I also plan to throw twin turbos and a drivetrain that can handle 700HP/tq. I was hoping to get advice on anything engine related that could be useful. Internal, external, different combinations of engine components. Pretty much any advice will be great. Thanks in advance everyone!
Vehicle:
99 Z28 Camaro
3:42 rear-end
T56 tranny
Bone stock for the time being...
Also, I want to use this vehicle for track/daily driving

If by timing system you mean 58x, there will be a multitude of problems (tuning and trans related). If you don't want VVT, just do a 24x conversion (and even if you do want it, consider a 24x conversion).
ls9 intake is for the ls9. ls3 is for everything else.

By timing system I mean keeping the variable cam so that I get valve overlap at wide open throttle. What kind of problems would there be with that? What is the difference between the 58x and the 24x. I'm pretty sure he said the ls9 intake. It could have been a different number it was a while ago we were talking about it lol it's the intake off a newer vette

I have personally picked up the same motor. I am building it to operate with the original pcm in my 01 z28. The main concern is the crank signal. Camaro uses 24x the l92 has 58x. Now how to run cam actuator. Use truck pcm, or research you will find people doing other creative things such as objectors pulse. Problem with truck pcm is that I don't know how you will interface with the rest of the data line. Unless you don't care that nothing else works correct. I suggest you read read and read some more especially the sticky.

I pulled crank and swapped the reluctor. I am not going to keep the variable cam because I want to keep all functions and reliability is important. I personally also wanted to keep cost down. The way I look at it if the car ends up pissing me off then I won't enjoy it anymore. So cam and freshin up motor along with all ls3 parts will work. I figure extra 100 horse over stock will make me happy but that's me.

I think it would be easier to go with an lq4 block and find l92 heads than to worry about changing cam and timing systems on an l92 wouldn't it?

It's really your choice. I wanted aluminium block. As soon as you go with l92 heads you will need the supporting parts. Look up l92 intake ports and then look up the ls1 and lq4. They won't work for you not to mention you want power. If your serious about making that kind of power you need to do a lot of research. You might want a iron block and high flow heads. I really can't steer you on that. The l92 heads are basically same as ls3. Now if I am wrong maybe someone will correct me. But anyway ls1 uses like a 78mm or so intake. My ls3 intake will have 90mm. More flow more air hence more power. For me I can use mostly stock parts. I break down I go anywere and get a new part. Now if you have lots of money to spend how about a crate motor.look up lsa crate. Sweet!!!!

Well first off it seems I am pretty low buget. A lot of people on here seem to have a lot more disposable income then me. Anyway I have been a g.m. tech for a long time so I have the know how and connections. I picked up a l92 for $100 with a bad cam. Originally was for my gen. 3 transam. Then I found a 01 z that is tired but has everything I want for parts. Well being the t.a. will and has taken too long I decided to redo the z.so by the way the t.a. is getting sold off if you know anyone that needs something. The z will be getting basically a ls3 with a hot cam, tune and probably headers. Then some suspension upgrades. Rims from o.e. interior parts needed. Trans overhaul, t56 that is. Ls7 clutch probably.ect.
