408 LQ9 build question
OK to make this simple I am taking this in on trade.
2005 LQ9 callies compstar crank and rods and a Bullet race cam 243/255 625/600
the block is untouched at this point.
My question is this whats it all worth??
If I were going to build this motor what cubic would be a good build with this cam 408 421 ????
I'll admit it I'm an idiot and I'm asking for some of the guru's help
thanks in advance for your help and thanks in advance for the flame too

my personal pick would be a 427.
has a 4in stroke which is what you want for any power added and to put miles on the motor , it will make more power then a big cam 408 bc of added CIs and be alot more streetable plus you have room to grow if you wish, whoever builds the motor tell them how much spray you want to use and they will build it to suit that with ring gaps and so forth, i have a 408 and if i had to do it again i would do 427 and if i need a new motor it will be a 427, there are ls1s and stock 6.0s reaching 408 power nowadays
this is just my take on it, others will differ

there are people making 500rwhp/500rwhp with a 427 shortblock, small cam. ls1 heads and intake with a auto, so you see how much room you have there

well with the crank and rods being for a 408 build that would mean I have to buy a different rotating assy or can I go bigger pistons to get 427???
sorry I know I am askig stupid ??'s but I want to gain knowledge here

well if its a good trade and no money out the pocket and all parts are new then maybe its better that you build a 408 shortblock just based on all the money you are saving
the cam is questionable tho, i would get a cam speced more for your needs and the heads you are going to use

if its going in a GTO, make sure the crank is a 24x reluctor wheel
other than that...if it's a 408 rotating assy then you would be at 4.030 bored iron block, with the 4" crank.
If the block is not machined yet....it's not worth much. Might need a lot of $$ to get it assembled. Bore/hone, align hone, deck, cam bearings, etc
Figure the rotating assy if Callies is worth $2500 new without knowing what pistons you have.
A stock iron LQ9 block is worth $200-300 tops
Bullet grind probably $400 to 450 new
I Think that cam will work nicely in a rowdy 408

new lq blocks sell from $500-700 alone last time i checked
cams go for $200-250
so even take the low end on the block and cam thats $700 right there without the rods and crank
