Spinmonster 230XFI/234XER 114 : your results
Guys, I am building an iron block 415 with GMPP cnc LS3 heads and I am researching cams and results before I buy one. Its a bit of a budget build and will be a daily driver. At this point I am interested in the famous Spinmonster cam so if you have any results to share then please post up. Keep it clean please. Opinions are great but I really want results.
Thanks guys.
Thanks guys.

Im sure I could and I have before with old school gear but now its all to do with how well the EFI can cope with it and how well it can be tuned. There is a youtube vid of a vette idling with this cam and it sounds pretty cammy then the idle goes off and the motor fuels up. Sure this is probably a tune glitch but I don't want my daily ride doing this in morning traffic. I cant afford trial and error this time around so I am taking the time to do my research first.
Dynojunkie - details please, how is it on the street and how does it perform?
Intake duration is mostly responsible for the characteristics of the cam right? So your only one degree more than the spin cam with some more exhaust and a little tighter LSA.
Spins cam might be for smaller motors but he says it will work fine in a larger motor too, just everything will happen earlier in the rpm range.
Yoner - I would think so too but have a look at the lesson learned thread on LS3 cams, that has made me think again.
Thanks guys.

Cam does work quite well, weight shifted horsepower calculates to 565hp.
Inititialy I was disappointed as to how tame it sounded having previously used a LS1 with 228 228 .588" .588" 113. The LS3 did not sound any "angrier" just a bit deeper.
Recently fitted a CompCam 235 243 .620" .624" 113 to a friends manual LS2 GTO, which is very angry sounding in the smaller motor.

Go bigger. No sense in lots of cubes if youre not going to take advantage of them. Not trying to sound like a jerk but rather trying to help you get most of cubes and money you have invested in. Id google "LS3 Stroker cam dyno" and evaluate the combos
(compression, ported or stock heads, intake and exhaust selection, tranny, stall and gears, comments, etc)
put together and purpose if stated to help me make a the best educated cam selection.
Good luck with your project and GOD Bless, Rob

Why don't you get ahold of a cam guy and let him select the proper cam based on your car, application, and engine parameters?
No sense in just selecting something because its a popular topic. There's nothing magic about any particular set of numbers... its either matched for the application or its not.
