Default PRO Engine builders. Brodix head tech question.

SO i was browsing through head and looking into a pair. I was told about the brodix heads by a friend and was told they are pretty good and may work for me. I noticed one note on the heads that has me stumped.

In the description on this head, the 273 BR heads. Second line up from the bottom where it says spring pockets. It says "Spring Pockets: 1.350'' out of the box, May not be cut any larger or deeper"

Is this true? the spring pockets cannot be machined at all basically? Brodix website says this also. I need pockets for a good sized solid roller spring.

Well I doubt Brodix is wrong since they have that posted on their website, but it does look like there is a BR7 head with 1.650" spring pockets.

yea from what i see on brodix website one part number has the 1.550 springs that can be cut to 1.650. part number 1178102

wonder why they can only be 1.350 spring pockets?

I'd guess that there isn't any room. The one with the larger pockets require longer valves so they probably had to move everything up in order to open up those spring pockets.

Most of the aftermarket heads have to do that. A set of aftermarket cathedral heads I almost bought could accept a 1.550" spring, but the valves were .400" longer and HEAVY!

Ive had a set. Its very thin at the spring pocket area and we couldnt go any larger. Brodix does have another set that accepts 1.65 springs. But takes longer valves and special rockers.

i would be fine with the rockers and longer valves. ive been told the heads flow pretty good out of the box. seems they would work well for my build i just needed good roller springs

You would not be able to get any compression with the 70cc chambers and that short stroke 3.185,you would need a big dome on the pistons and that hurts your n/a power

Ari can those heads be milled down in chamber size? i am only looking for pump gas compression at this point. 12:1 maximum. I would need a 50cc chamber to accomplish that though.

Yes they can and could allso be angel milled

It would be best to start out with blank castings to get your CC on the chambers atleast or use LSX-DR or CT heads they come with 48cc chambers

kinda wanna sway away from the DR castings being they use only the Dr manifold. would like more options then one gmpp manifold then full custom. Thats why i was looking into these or Edelbrock raw heads.

This stuffs got me about to just build a big block and say to hell with it.
