ls3 head gaskets. How clean is clean
how clean does the deck and heads have to be? The engine only has 10,000 miles on it so the old gasket material is coming right off. I used a razor going backwards so it wouldnt scratch the aluminum. The heads still have the out line from the old gaskets but you cant feel it. I havent started on the deck yet. I see people using scotch brite or sandpaper to get the aluminum looking like new. Is that necessary? I dont want to get particles in the engine.

I'd stay away from scotch brite especially on the block. Heads can be blown off better with less nooks & crannys for debris to hide in.

I've always just used a razor blade, towels, and carb cleaner. If I have some really tough stuff the lighter scotchbrite pads work great with some carb cleaner. I've never had an issue with boosted cars. Just don't be one of those guys who uses steel wool. lol

its nice working on new stuff. I think the razor will do it. then ill wipe it down with acetone and as long as i cant feel anything it should be good. How do people scratch the aluminum with a razor? i always use it angled backwards like this_>>>_____/____>>>
