Hey all, I'm fixin to go from a Gen III LS1 to a Gen IV stroker. Is there a way for the front timing setup to work with my Gen III 24 tooth MSD for the cam timing? Did a search and didn't find anything but a bunch of tech manuals.

The crankshaft wheel is what determines timing, not the front cover.

So whether it's a 24 or 58 tooth reluctor wheel, the cam sensor doesn't matter?

It's the same sensor if it's in the back of the block or the front cover??

Obviously I'd have to lengthen the connector, but my MSD-6LS will work with the cam sensor in the timing cover???

Right now I have a Gen III with a 24 tooth wheel and the cam sensor in the back of the block. You can't get a new block with the cam sensor in the back any longer. If it doesn't work I'll get a new MSD and a stroker kit with a 58 tooth wheel. But, would rather not buy another MSD if I don't have to.

So the question remains, will an MSD-6LS for a 24 tooth reluctor wheel work with a cam sensor in the front cover?

The sensor just has to match whatever is on the crank wheel. You want a black or grey cam sensor, part #12600325 is the ls2/24x front cover sensor.

You'll need a Gen IV front cover, a 1x timing gear, and the matching 1x cam sensor.
Racetronix makes a nice extension harness for the new sensor location.
You will also need to drill and tap the sides of the block for the Gen III knock sensors and get/make the extension harness.

Yeah, I read the entire article that was linked. I run a carb, no knock sensors needed. Will definitely look at a Racetronix harness extension.
