402 Stroker + Nitrous Cam Options..
Looking for some advice from knowledgeable, unbiased folks...
Quick basic rundown on the car:
Vengeance Racing built 402 Stroker
Trickflow 225cc Heads
Ported Fast 90 / Ported stock LS2 TB
Kooks 1 7/8's, Spintech
Vindicator Cam - (240/244 - .605/.596 on 112+4)
Nitrous Outlet Plate kit
RPM Lvl 5 Auto
Previous owner claimed 500+hp/tq.. last summer in 95* with no cool down it made 460whp n/a, 672 on 175 shot. Upping to 200 shot after these couple changes and having the tune looked at again.
Now my main questions/concerns. The motor was built in 11/07, thus the Fast 90 and Vindicator cam. Obviously I'm leaving some power on the table with the Fast 90, I'm planning on swapping that out for the new MSD Atomic AirForce. My biggest question is the cam selection. Am I leaving much on the table by sticking with the Vindicator? I'm sure there might be some better options out there, but at what cost? Not worth a $400 cam swap to pick up 4-5 hp.. if there's another 15-20, then its probably worth it.

A couple options I was looking at if I were to swap..
BTR Stroker Nitrous Cam:

Texas Speed Stroker Cam: (I had their 233/239 cam in my old GTO and it ran hard.. 10.89 on just a cam/stall 150 shot)

Hopefully you all make sense of my rant. Just looking to make a couple upgrades and get ready for the season.

A good ported 90/92 will in fact outperform a stock 102. That's been proven time and time again. I'd love to see any evidence of a stock MSD outperforming a ported 92 or 102. If I'm wrong I'll gladly admit it

Exactly as you just said it... Not on cathedral heads. The MSD intake only shines on the LS7 port style. Stick with what you have or upgrade to a ported 102mm. Brian Tooley and Tony Mamo are the guys to talk to about cam combo's and intake manifold porting.

Thinking about going with the 239/254 BTR cam instead on the Nitrous cam. I think it'll be a little better suited for a car thats pretty much a daily driver during the summer.. also think I've been persuaded into going with the Fast 102 over the MSD. Rather go with whats been proven than taking a chance I think.

There are a lot of things to consider with this combo… I would start with doing a leak down test to ensure the engine is healthy. What type of dyno did you see 460rwhp on? Was the converter locked or un locked?
The Vindicator is an excellent choice for a street driven stroker combination. There are obviously much larger camshafts you could go with, but would be sacrificing drivability and bottom end power in the process. Even if you went up 15+* on the intake lobe I would only expect to see 10-15rwhp gain…
The MSD should pick up some power, especially if paired with a 102 throttle body. I would also consider a fresh valve job on the cylinder heads to ensure you are getting all of the flow from them you can.
Feel free to give us a call to discuss any other questions you might have.
