Default GM LS7 hot cam

Does anyone have any part numbers for the new LS7 hot cams featured in Hot Rod a few months back? Nothing in the new parts catalog either.

Has anyone installed and run one yet?

I, too, am interested in finding an LS7 cam with about the same lift as the stocker but with a little more duration, i.e. low to mid 230s. I'm running a 222/226, .570/.570 cam in my LS1/6 now and its street manners are perfect but I'd go a little bigger next time. The mid 230 LS1/6 cams by Comp and Crane will evidently fit but with the 1.85 LS7 rockers would produce way more lift than I want. Jason at Katech says they are testing some cams now.

I can only answer what I read in Hot Rod. GM has two cams for the LS7 they call hot cams similar to hot cams in the past. One version is a drop in - no changes to any other hardware (springs, rockers, retainers) and picks up ~40 HP. The next one is a more serious and requires the user to install new valve spring retainers (to get more height to prevent coil bind) but otherwise drops in. I think this was worth 60HP. GM has the time, money (?) and sophisticated tools to develop a good cam with long life.

I have the issue. I thought they listed the part numbers. If not, call Katech the engine dyno runs were performed at their place. They might have additional information.

Hey guys,

We've been testing cams this spring. We're just not ready to announce any information until everything is exactly how we wait it.

As for the GM cams we are awaiting the release of the cam through the dealer network and can't give out any additional information at this time.

230/231 591/591 116
227/239 583/583 ?
233/276 630/630 ?

Default HOT ROD misprint

I assume the 233/276 is a misprint in HOT ROD. Does anyone know the correct #'s on that one?

I'd really like some reliable info on LS7 cams using stock 1.85 LS7 rockers too

Yeah i think thats a typo in the mag, althought for the stage 3 cam they did list groos cam timing (degrees) as 294 int 335 exh so maybe its right, and since they didnt list the LSA for any of the cams, im going to assume that they retain the stock LS7 116 LSA??

At the end of the article they listed a prototype carb intake for the LS7 that made almost identicle numbers as the EFI and should be released some time soon, and they said that the same intake will be released for the L92 heads as well.

No part numbers for anything in the article.
