Default LSX bigger that 454 out there?

Is anyone building a new LSX with more than 454 CI? I think I read that these blocks can go up to 500+ CI. Anyone actually building one now?

thanks

We have a 455 already running for about a month. We are now building a 471 with a blower.

would one of those rev faster than a 454? I know that it depends on bore and stroke size but how much extra is a 500+ ci worth in hp compared to a 454?

454 vs 500 CID

Convention wisdow says 50+ CID x's the typical HP/Cylinder would roughly be worth 65-75 HP on a serious street engine or even more in track setup.

Hey ARDLS1,

do you have any numbers for the 454?

would the 4.25 bore x 4.5 stroke be able to rev as high and fast as something with a little shorter stroke, I guess I always thought the longer the stroke the longer it takes to rev up to say 6000 or 7000 rpm

You will want to stay away from the 4.25 bore as there will be almost no headgasket between the cylinders. Stay with a 4.185 max bore and your head gaskets will live longer

As far as how fast it revs, yes a shorter stroke should rev a little quicker, but with the correct rotating assembly and flywheel, it should rev plenty fast

I have a low compression 454 LSX its 4.200 Bore X 4.100 Stroke.

Its boosted with an STS turbo, we are going with custom Twins for it now. At the builders shop we have an all motor 472CI LSX motor on the run stand now.

Course it can, but theirs no cometic head gasket for that size, unless you want copper gaskets.

4.5 stroke.......... you would have a compression height of .895

We won't build a motor with over 4.000" stroke unless its a C5R block or tall deck.

Expert engine builder ERIK KOENIG has informed me that a 482 cubed LSX motor with perfectly square 4.25 bore x 4.25 stroke is very doable on the current short deck LSX block on the market (as long as its for a N/A application which my future motor will be). Now if only I had an extra $12K laying around! Someday, hopefully sooner than later!

I was talking about a tall deck and if you will look farther down at my next post, I recommended not to go over a 4.185 bore because of the gasket issues.

We are seeing a few 454 coming through with a 4.125 stroke. I believe Robin build a 930 HP 454 using that stroke as well using a LSX cast block. Is your shop seeing a problem with the 4.125" stroke setups?
