Question Anyone have or know of a recipe for a buget build 408??

I was wondering if anyone knows of cheap and I mean cheap parts for a 408..... like along the lines of non-forged pistons, rods, crank???
My goal would be to build a 408 , in parts that is for like $1600. I know I could pick up a escalade block for around 600 bucks because I just saw one in the fs section and lets say 300-400 dollars for some non forged rods, maybe 300-400 for pistons, and then I just need piston rings and bearings @ 300. My hole theory is that forged stuff is over rated for street cars, and yes, I know that that forged parts are lighter and you can make more power because of a lighter rotating assembly and it could take more abuse and what not but, all this takes me back to what people have been doing stock GM short blocks (Truck 6.0, LS1/LS2/LS6) our LSX motors with there stock parts are knowed to take big shots of NOS and take good amounts of boost. Tuners have gotten better over the years and we all seen the LS1 take 150 shot for years and Paris's 6.0 turbo truck with boost and a shot last for a long time on the stock short block.

if you aren't in a real big hurry you could troll in the for sale section and wait until you find a decent deal on a 4" crank ,then find a set of new/used 6.125 rods with the pistons with the right cc you are wanting but imo i would wait alittle longer and get all forged internals since it won't wind up being all that more and it will be stronger. i don't even know if anyone like keith black has budget pistons for lsx applications but forge it and forget it i say. i know where you are coming from on the budget part but changing motors is a project and i would really hate for one of those cast pistons to come apart when i could have spent alittle more and it held together.

SDPC puts their rotating assemblies on sale once in a while. I got one for under $1500 shipped with Eagle crank, Scat rods, and Diamond pistons. As long as you are not in a hurry, you can get a decent deal. The thing balanced like a dream too, only a couple small holes drilled. If you patch something together with spare parts, balancing may be an issue.

I can't see getting a rotating assembly or non-forged parts as cheap as you are saying. Who is making those cheap rods? The only one making non forged rods is GM. So now you are back to a stock rebuild on something (not a 408). And I bet if you priced it, it would cost the more.

i've seen some "forged" rods for 200 bucks but they were off brand, ebay has cheap rods too.

you could tho use some i beams instead since they are usually cheaper and get a name brand

i seen some eagle 6.125 i beams for 250 shipped on ebay
