L33 aluminum 5.3 block compared to an LS1 Block
Does any body have a bare 5.3 alluminum block for comparison??? Or pictures of the inside of these blocks??? I would like to see pictures of how they might compare to An LS1 block. I have searched all over and I can not find any specific info on the Blocks... From a performance stand point I would like to know if it would be worth investing in as an alternative. I know if you want to make decent power you would have to replace the cylinder liners in either block. I am not conserned with that just wether or not they would have the same strength as an LS1 Or LS2 block. Could this possibly be the new sleeper platform???
At this time I am looking to build a new motor and was thinking that a used LS1 block with new liners would be the most over all cost effective way to go Vs an Iron block. But If I could find an L33 block and work it over the same way then why not. I have my eye out for both blocks right now. No one seems to want to use the Aluminum 5.3 because they know so little about them...
Any help would be greatly appericated. Thanks

I would stay with the ls1 block. more potential. Performance wise the ls1 is far greater. More torque and HP. Even though the 5.3 is smaller, it is also a heavier block from what I have heard. The ls1 block is also suppose to be 10% stonger than the 5.3. Let me find the info and i will post it

Its amazing the kind of information that gets posted when people do not know 100%. I have an aluminum 5.3L sitting in my garage. Externally it is identical to an LS1 in every respect. All external bolt-ons will bolt on without issues. The sleeves have the same O.D. as the 5.7L engines so it can easily be bored to be a 5.7L engine. The crank and rods are the same as an LS1.

Thanks!!! I could not find any other Info on this. I may have the oppertunity to pick up an L33 5.3 block and I was wondering If I could use that instead of an LS1 block for my performance build up. It seems no one cares about these so I can't find any info on them. I wasn't to concerned with the factory sleeves themselfs since I was gonna swap them out for better ones and a go for a larger bore. I just wanted to know if it was worth using as an alternative. I already scored a crank so I am good there... still lookin for a block though...

What bore do you want to have? Resleeving a block is very expensive. If you can be happy with a 4" bore then then most cost effective starting point is an LS2 block.

I already talked to the machine shop about it and its ether that or an iron block. I would have to go new on a 6.0 iron block an thats almost 1000 bucks wich if I can get a used aluminum block Ls1 or 5.3 cheap enough I would rather spend 1000 bucks sleeveing it and go that route...

I just got a 2000 LS1 short block with excessive blowby in number 7 for $200. If you shop around you can find things really cheaply.
