Red face What would you do? Dillemma. (kinda long)

Spend 4k to finish my H/C build up (the parts in my sig), plus TFS heads and a ported FAST 90 set up. OR spend an additional 4k (8K total) for a long block 418?

How much money do you have to spend? you are also going to need to upgrade things on the car as well. If it help's after my year in Iraq I was able to put some ported L92 heads on an iron 408. But I bought a 10 point roll cage fuel system all BMR suspension . Bogart wheels a strange rear end this stuff adds up depending on how far you want to go. I have about 29,000.00 in part's so far in my 99 SS and that was with me doing all of the work but the Machine work.

I'll have enough to do whatever I want. Yeah, I'm going to do the rear end and stall converter; drive the trans to it craps out and go with a 4L80e. I'm just trying to pit an almost max effort H/C vs. bigger cubic inches; how much more 75hp or so is going to cost? And where I'll be able to go from there.

If I could do it over again I would do a big cubic inch N/A build. I really like the power I am seeing out of the 427's and they are getting pretty affordable.

That's just my inexperience in the matter. I've never owned anything or 350ci. So, I'm not sure what I'm missing out on the larger applications. Maybe I should just go that route and try it.

I think you can ask any shop owner that has driven H/C C5's versus 400+ cu in built C5's, there is no comparison. And coming from a Vette owner that has used nitrous, owned a twin turbo kit and messed with C5's with Superchargers, build the biggest cubic inch engine you can afford, you can't go wrong. Hope this helps

The way I see it is you already have it apart...do it right. Go with a larger cube...however will your head and cam package be usable on a larger cube? If you just do the HC swap you may look back and say you should have done the motor...but f you do the motor, you will have a badass car and wont regret it. Thats my two cents.

The bigger motor won't just give you 75 more horsepower, or it might not be worth it. It will give you more torque, the ability to run a bigger cam with good drivability, and a forged platform if you want more power later. I would (and did) go bigger.

Well, I have an MS4, but I haven't purchased heads yet. I was going to get TFS 215's, but I'm guessing the L92's or LS7 heads would be better. Buying a better suited cam for the larger motor isn't a big deal, I'm sure the MS4 would be nice in there; but I will probably go a lot larger.

I would do a 402 with an L92 top end for now, then upgrade the top end later when the real good LS3 stuff is out in force - should get close to 500 whp. Then when all the big head companies and FAST get their LS3 stuff out, upgrade the top end.
