6.2 truck motor vs ls3
I have a 6.2 out of a truck. I was told you can't put a big cam in it because of the valve clearance. Whats differnt with the 6.2 ls3 in the vettes where you can put cams in them? Can I use the 6.2 I have or am I better off selling it and starting over?

Only thing I can think of is that ls3 valves are hollow stem sodium filled while the L92's are pure steel which makes them heavier. Therefore it hits valve float at a lower rpm. If you mean bigger cam by way of hitting the power band in the higher rpms then I would think that it is true that the ls3 can handle a bigger cam...
This only applies if both are stock however. Flycutting and lightening the valve train may take care of this problem altogether. No sense in buying a whole different engine for this since the L92 and LS3 are not that different besides compression and intake...

Truck 6.2L shortblock is the same as the LS3 from the ones Ive seen.
Ive ran a 238/242 , .620 @ 110 lsa with a 08 truck 6.2L, with milled .035 PRC CNC L92 heads. I checked PTV clearance and it had plenty of clearance, could have went bigger.

since the heads are the same casting, i can only assume the difference in compression comes by using dished pistons in the L92. You would think this would give you more clearance not less. but we need someone who knows what they are talking about here.

Just flycut your pistons, and run any cam you want. Seriously.....l92 pistons are flat tops with valve reliefs, the ls3 are flat tops without valve reliefs. The l92 should allow a bigger cam. To run anything big enough to take advantage of those heads you're gonna have to flycut.
As for valvetrain, you can get springs and retainers that will work fine with those heavier solid L92 valves. Call Richard @ WCCH, he knows what'll work with those valves for however big of cam you choose.
