i just got a LS7 and i noticed a chip in the block. i am worried about it. im not sure if the damage will affect the performance of the motor.
the damage is a chip in the groove where you would bolt up crank. i have a pic of a normal one and the damaged one. i just wanna know if the block is gonna be useless or if i will have problems in the future thanks alot.
the first one i think is the good one as you can tell. thanks for the help
It looks like that is the main with the thrust bearing. If so the bearing wraps around for the trust area as well as the main bearing. After you install the bearing you won't see it. Also the bearing has a lot of support so it should not be a problem Normally you want as much bearing contact with the main saddle to dissapate heat. Since this appears to be the thrust there is a lot of contact with that bearing.
If it's going to keep you awake at night with worry then get it exchanged. It's not worth the agony. Me, I would run it.
^^^^What he said. Take it to a GOOD machine shop. Check and correct the align bore first. On the cylinder ware, have him see how much needs to be honed from the cylinders to clean them up. Standard machine shop pratices should get you going. That's a very good buy. Congrats.
