Default 2014 Power Tour (20th Anniversary)

Here are the venues. (mileage between points in parentheses)

http://blogs.hotrod.com/2014-hot-rod...#axzz2hE9A1Z8j

June 7 - Concord NC
June 8 - Knoxville, TN (252)
June 9 - Charleston, WV (310)
June 10 - Norwalk, OH (279)
June 11 - Crown Point, IN (278)
June 12 - Bettendorf, IA (197)
June 13- Wisconsin Dells, WI (184)
June 14- Long Haul Photo and awards (1500 miles total)

Thoughts? The latter half will be in my nick of the woods, and I hope to have my upgrades for the year done by then, so I might be joining in on the later 2 legs...

Agreed. At least the ones that I would be driving will be shorter.

If this is true those are some long legs for next year. One thing for sure if you go to the morning driver's meeting on the first 4 legs you will get to the next venue about the time it is shutting down. I never go to driver's meetings anyway. I get up and go and I'm 150 miles down the road by the time the meeting is over and the cluster phuch traffic jam is sorted out....tour till it hurts!!...

I wonder if there's going to be any side-trips in the latter couple of legs. There are several tracks within a few minutes of the last two legs (US 41 dragway, Joliet RT 66 dragway, Joliet Autobahn, etc. ), and the trip ends within 50 miles or so of Road America...

This is a good thing. Power tour is supposed to be about the drive.

I always go to the drivers meeting. To me the point is to enjoy the drive with your fellow enthusiasts. Not be the first one to the destination to get a good parking spot and sit. Unless the destination has autocross, then I rush to get there to have some fun!

Why is the Power Tour nearly always on the eastern and midwest states?

Because of the density of population and the distance between cities. It is all about the money. Most of the vendors are located in that half of the country. Keep in mind the size of the event and the logistics involved in doing it. You will never see it out west.

Can't wait!

Plan to do my first long haul this year since I live in Chicago and it ends a few hours away. Just need to knock out that initial drive to the starting point.

I heard that, I am about 735 miles away if I dip down through Atlanta. Then my return home is 609 miles!! Hell, getting to and from the tour is another tour in itself for me!! Looks like I am gonna need to save up WAY more than I thought...

I would love to make the long haul just to make the long haul, whether or not I win it. Plus have some great photos and videos for others to watch..

I am thinking I will need to get an additional camera if I can make it.

Do the organizers have preferred places to stay along the way that you can get better pricing? Or are the hotel choices completely up to you and your wallet?
