My 02 WS6 was totaled
Well my F body days are over. I ordered that car and had it built the way I wanted. Enjoyed it for 8 years. Then back in April I was driving to work on the 605 freeway here in California and when traffic suddenly slowed a Prius hit me from behind doing about 60 and pushed me into the center divider. Damage from front to back. I miss my Trans Am. But the knowledge I gained working on it I can now use on the 99 Corvette I bought with the insurance claim. Turns out those Firebirds hold their value. Was worth $17,800. Had 50,000 miles. So I paid cash for the used 99 with the same miles. Well now I have a new project to work on. And the Vette is fun to drive. Just thought I would write this FWIW.

im in the same boat right now. my 99 z28 got totaled by 2 dumb bitches driving recklessly. they lost control at a high rate of speed and nailed the drivers side 1/4 panel and bumper back at the end of july this year. ins co gave me 9k for it, and i bought it back for 1k. now im parting it out and putting that and some of the insurance money toward a C5

Not hurt just a little stiff for a couple of days. The Vette is a better car. So many features. And I like being able to look at oil temp and things as I drive. Handling is amazing. Drove in mountains last week and it can take turns scary fast! Still learning how to drive it. Right now more car then driver. And its faster then other C5's Ive been in. Has different intake and exhaust but I dont know what else the previous owner did to it. I looked at tune with EFILIVE and it has been reprogrammed. Anyway sad about my Firebird but happy with Vette.

I found out all the little things I did to take care of it paid off. I got a copy of why they paid what they did. Things like seats covered = $500, engine bay clean = $250, paint like new(always covered or garaged), tires worn evenly................ List went on and on.

Yes C5's are affordable. If you find one that someone took care of youve got it made! My 99 is like new. Paint seats, its like it was never used.
