Red face new owner 98 firebird

been around the forum for a while now. until now i havent owned an ls-powered vehicle, just worked a bit and been around them mostly. it's a 1998 firebird chassis but the original owner(i'm the 4th owner) swapped an ls1 motor/trans/misc stuff in its place. what i can tell thus far is its a 98-00 motor(has EGR) so i imagine its also got the ls1 intake manifold. chassis has ~134k miles while the motor/trans was told has ~74k miles

once piece driveshaft and i think it has the vette fuel lines because i didnt see a fuel filter installed anywhere on the driver side nor underneath the underbody. can someone confirm what to look for please? if it does have the vette fuel rails, then i imagine the fuel pump was replaced with an ls1 as well? the previous owner didnt mod the tank to have it a drop-in because the trunk area's clean and no access to a fuel pump.

i am going to find a local around here to scan/read the ecm and see what year it is. i have an LS1M and when i scan for any CELs(i think the previous owner didnt put the bulb back in behind the dash), there were a few codes, 3 of which i found on here but the others are nonexistant(ie-1601, 1701) but the other ones are 0131, 0133, and 0151. the LTFT's on the LS1M were like +20 to +22. i imagine the B1S1 and B2S1 need replacement?

also the car codes said it has posi-traction/lsd G80 on the door but when i had my friend stand behind the car while i did a small/short burn out he said the passenger side spun more while the driver side was just slowly picking up afterwards. i only did the burn out for 2-3seconds though? again any input on that would be greatly appreciated.

anyways enough said onto the pics! its NBM color....my exposure on the droid was set too bright

some extras:
my-now stock gtp-(was turbo'd and was pushing somewhere in the realm of 430-450whp(trapped 117mph all day)

pop's torrid red 05 gto a4

TIA

Nice man. I don't know what to look for to determine if it as the vette fuel rails, but it does sound like u need to replace your O2 sensors. If u haven't already, post in the technical sections and I'm sure you'll get some accurate responses to your questions.
And no offense, but your pop's car looks better IMO, not that I would say that just because it's red or anything (note car color in sig)

haha its cool, my pops car i would prefer only cause of the ls2 motor :-). well my local guy scanned my ecm and its a 98. im gonna jack the car up this weekend to see where the fuel filter is as its not in the engien bay. yea im going to get the bosch 13111 as i read they're great sensors and they are elongated to fit when i get headers.

fuel filter is at driver's side, right before the axle.

thanks guys. planning on getting hp tuners first as a local checked my pcm and the commanded afr is set at the factory 11.5 and i read around here actual afr is 12.9-13.0 which is insanely lean for me coming from an FI vehicle. also will be getting a wb as well then the bolt-ons like headers and suspension :-)

mod bug bit me again on this car XD

i found a set of stainless pacesetter headers on CL for $300 however the seller as well as when i checked pacesetter's website lists they only fit on the 00-02 only? did the chassis or something changed from the 98-99 that wouldnt allow the headers to fit or what?

If I remember correctly, it had something to do with a sensor location.

you're right. i emailed pacesetter and the emission fittings are located differently which im guessing is the egr plate. i will mostliely be deleting the egr anyways.

also i checked the inner door panel and the RPO shows both GU6 and G80, but IIRC the G80 is posi-traction and GU6 is 3.42 gears? FWIW, my RPMs when cruising around 65-70 is under 2000RPMs. that's not 3.42 but 2.73 territory correct?

maybe the original owner swapped in a 2.73 non-lsd trans when they swapped the LS1 stuff over? does that sound right?

Looks like your T/A is automatic. Standard gears with that tranny is 2.73s and the option is 3.23.

yes its auto/A4. so that would mean it doesnt have the posi-traction/lsd then? makes sense if my passenger was spinning and not the driver side.

i can easily swap and upgrade to the 3.42 gears w/lsd correct?

It should. Mine came with one... (it was an auto). I swapped my 2.73s to 3.42s as well along with a newish LSD.

its good you know all this before even buying the car, swaps tend to always have a few bugs to work out sometimes and alot of stuff is not in stock locations

it somewhat helped that my pop has an 05 gto a4 and my lil brother has the 02 ws6 a4 lol. everything on the car was done very nicely. everything remained stock surprisingly even the EGR and air pump was transferred over. cold A/C and has no TCS installed. my only confusion is what the hell rearend was used lmao. i did a few searches and the V8s 2.73s came with posi regardless of 2.73s, 3.23s, or 3.42s(m6). however what about the v6 rear though? are they any different? the owner even swapped the driveshaft from the 2piece to the one piece so that's why its confusing me on the rear. im awaiting the hp tuners in teh mail, perhaps that'll help in identifying the gears and lsd?

that or go out to an empty parking lot, make a wet spot and do a longer burnout, not just 2-3 seconds long haha. also my local friend diabloformula metioned if the car wasn't straightened out before doing the burnout the posi/lsd will engage since the car's not straight?
