So, I posted a thread in a different subject... No response. So I need your guys' input. There's a ticking noise coming from my Z... What could it possibly be? HELP!!... I just spent every penny I had buying this car. This is going to kill me if it's something big.

Does it tick on start up? Mines always had valve train noise, usually nothing to worry about. Just a quark with these motors

Yea when I first start it up, it makes this ticking noise consistently for a little bit and then it either quiets down or goes away as I continue to drive on it. My brother said it has something to do with my pushrod. I also looked on youtube and it's common with ls1's but some people were commenting on other peoples videos of their car saying it could be a spun bearing. I seriously don't know what I'm gonna do if it's a spun bearing. Meaning new engine.

[QUOTE=groundZ-28ERO;16056067]So I had this guy tell me it's because it was cold. It only happened in the morning when I went to work. Then it went away when I left work. It hasn't happened since this morning. I just turned it on and it's fine.

Noise could be... Piston Slap
Im pretty sure that ticking noise you hear coming from your engine in the morning when the engine is cold is what GM engineers call...
" Piston Slap "
When your engine warms up the pistons become tighter in the cylinder bore whick makes the piston slap noise go away.
My car did this for one year. Not much you can do about it... if that is the problem. You just have to live with it. You can try thicker weight motor oil on your next oil change. It might quiet down a bit.

I've had piston slap for 100k miles. It's fine. It'll be fine for another 100k.
Lots of these engines do this. Nothing to worry about.

Wow, I doubt I'll have that problem here. My cousin always comes by with a vette that has some good stuff done to it. It's ridiculously loud, fast, and a fun ride. We don't get complaints. Not to mention, my brother has a Z. If I do get some sort of ticket. I'll be proud because then I know I made the right decision lol

Yea thank you. We've had Camaros since forever ago and they've had common problems because previous owners didn't take care of them. That's why I get scared if I hear any type of noise. It's all in how you take care of the car though. I hope she'll be good to me because I will take good care of her.
