Potential newcomer to LS1 world
Hey folks, I'm in the market for a new DD to replace my '02 Muskrat GT 5 speed convertible. I'm looking at a '00 Z28 convertible, dead stock, 60k-ish miles auto 2.73 gear. My son has a '95 almost completely stock '95 LT1 6 speed 3.42 gear so I've had a chance to drive a 4th gen F body. This '00 seems to really lumber out of the hole and as I expected didn't pop 2nd until 60-ish. I assume a gear change is in my near future, if I buy this car.
Are there anything I should be keeping an eye out for? Where do the tops leak or wear? What kind of mechanical issues does this vintage have?

Looks like its going to happen. I checked it out on the lift at work last night and its a really clean car underneath, the Carfax and Car Check (one pulled by a friend and one by the dealer) matched and showed no issues. I wasn't sure how to pay for it, didn't really want to hit the home equity loan or take from the '69 Cougar project fund, so I called my credit union and they offered me a 36 month loan at 1.5%!!!!! Can't beat that so I guess I'm picking it up tomorrow. Pics to follow when I get it clean.

I know I'll enjoy driving the Z28, but I know I will miss driving a stick. I may second guess myself for not waiting for a stick LS1 car, but this car was nice and price was right. If we can get some stuff done this winter I'll have the Cougar to blast around with a stick.

The deal is done and the '00 Z28 convertible is sitting in my garage. I think the paint is basically sound, but it needs a clay bar, buff, polish and wax. I might have to wait until it warms up a bit. The Monsoon system sounds like crap, the LH door speaker sounds blown. Not sure what to do about that yet. Its absolutely stock and unmolested ;^) for now.
