Help: BAD misfire everytime I hit a puddle '02 SS
So for about a year now, I've been tolerating/avoiding rainy weather, puddles, drive thru car washes, etc. Why? Ever since about a year ago or so, when I go over a puddle/enough water to splash up into my engine bay, i'll get problems characteristic of a/multiple misfires, i'll get the flashing SES light, and my car feels like death. Eventually, it'll dry out, correct itself and back to normal, provided I don't get it anymore wet. I've inspected the plug wires, coilpacks, nothing irregular. My mechanic can't figure it out, and it's getting old, having to bum rides anytime it's raining out. Any thoughts? My mods are as follows:
Camaro SS 2002
Pacesetter LTs
Magnaflow Cat
ORYP
Dynomax bullet muffler
Free ram-air mod
Thanks all, really appreciate any insight here. This sucks.
Cheers

I use some of that dielectric gel on my spark plug wire connections too to keep water out. also mine hasn't done it since I've turned all my wires 90degrees on the same connector they are on. I think when they are crimped from the factory at msd, some of them weren't tight enough. Mine hasn't had that problem since and I've driven through heavier rain than when I used to have the issue.

same thing happened to mine- it was the o2's. The place I took it to orginally put in new o2's when I blew one out. Well they put a new one in but did not seal it properly and had water hitting open wires- hence only messing it up when it got wet.

If the spray bottle thing doesnt work and you have access to tuning software, you might want to try logging driving time when its rainy. That might be able to help you see exactly whats causing the misfire.

yea if you know anyone or if you have hptuners you can force the car to run in open loop mode using the vcm controls. the computer shouldnt use the o2 sensors in open loop. That could rule out the problem.
Other then that i would invest in a tube of die electric grease and get to work...

Yep, he's right. I had the same problem. Turned out to be water in the connector for the O2 sensor & O2 extension causing it to run horrible. I unplugged them, dried them out really good, then loaded them up w/ dielectric grease & wrapped them up. Problem solved. I have since switched to the Bosch 13111's which are longer and have no need for O2 extensions, and still problem free. Good luck.

Thanks for all the helpful insight guys. This week I'm going to try disconnecting the O2 wires and sealing them w/a few layers of electrical tape, then see what happens. Again, I really appreciate the fast and detailed advice.

Think if the plugs are black its burning rich or oil getting sucked into the cylinder and if its white then running lean/hot. by the way I visited those towers in your youtube video a couple of months ago
OP, if taping up the O2s don't work are you going to try going around with a spray bottle to see if you get a reaction?
