hidden door unlock button
ok i'm retarded and lock my keys in my car alot. i want to hook up a button in the wheel well to unlock the doors. so i do this and findout that the door unlock button works on a switched ground so i hook my swith to ground and it works great. then i let the car set for 15 mins try it and it does'nt work. i assume i has something to do with how the radio and window switches will work for 10 mins when the key is out. so how do i set up my switch to unlock the doors at any time? thanx for help in advance

Why not go program a remote keyfob to the car, put it into a waterproof box of some sort... and then hide that wherever you wish? It should have the same effect as a wired button, and should be a lot easier to do.

dont wanna spend any cash for a new keyfob (mine did'nt come with one). and i just like the idea of being able to leave the keys in the car and lock it so i dont have to worry about it. always had trucks and rods with shaved door handles and door popers.

problem is the bcm shuts down after 10 min so you would have to find a way to wake it back up, imo tap right at the motor itself bypassing the bcm all together if done right you can unlock at ur will... i can help more if need be
check out bfranker how to stuff regarding alarm install, he talks about how to wake bcm up but i honestly dont know if that will help ya at all

U need to cath the wires before the bcm, as stated. The bcm "falls asleep" after 10 mins or so, as stated above. I catch the orange with a black stripe wire for unlock for keyless entry/alarms in the passenger kickpanel.

as for leaving the keys in the car at all times....why? do you want your car to be stolen? if they are sitting in plain site even with the doors locked, all a thief has to do is break a window to steal your car.

I know you don't want to spend any money, but what is your time worth? You can find a used fob on ebay, reprogram it in 30 seconds, and be done with it. And I've seen those things for $25!
Adding a button and tapping into your wiring just sounds like a security risk, an unnecessary PITA, and a totally backwards solution. This is a modern car with keyless entry, not an oldschool hot rod.

probably like $15 on ebay. programming cost $50+ but i think there's a tutorial on here and it wont be hard.

there's a programming guide on www.shbox.com
for the 93-95 cars its really simple and takes 5 mins.. for the 96-02 cars its a little harder but not that much

You could run a hot wire to the battery and then ground your switch. you will have to water proof your connections, but you should be ok. I doubt those switches draw much power. I mean you could try this if you drive your car every day, or very frequently. Enough, at least, to charge the battery back up.
Or you could just get into a habit of NOT leaving the damn keys in the car, or loosing them. That would be the most desirable of all the options.
