Default How to get more low end power / torque

I just got my car back from Late Model Race Craft and the following mods were done. The car runs great and went from 292 HP to 380 HP RWHP, but I did lose some low end power and any thing below 3000 rpm's in 4th, 5th, and 6th is kinda slugish and then 4000 rpm's to 6500 halls major ***! Do you think the off road Y pipe is contribution to this or do I just need 3:73 gear? O-ya 1st, 2th, and 3rd are perfict through out the power band.

Well, 5th and 6th are your overdrive gears...not really made to go fast anyway. What Cam is in it? 4.10s really wake up a stock car, let alone a cammed one.

A gear will help you out big time. Other than that, a loss of low end power is to be expected when you put a cam in your car.

Need more details on the camshaft. That's the likely source of your "issues." These larger duration camshafts shift the powerband up to where you feel a loss down low. That's a give and take relationship that has been around and known for MANY years.

On a 6 speed car more gear out back will help that some...more gear/converter combo in an automatic car.

The entire power band is now from 3000 rpm's to 6500 rpm's I guess next will be the 3:73 gear.

Need to find out and list the cam specs, I'm sure you will get some feedback if you do.

Without knowing anything about your cam, the two ways I know to get more low end power are with gears as state above or by raising your compression (milled heads).

Remember that your car is a system. All things have to work together to yeild the best results.

+100000000

my car felt a lil sluggish under 3k at first, i added 4:11s and it made my car a whole new animal. its so much more fun to drive now, even puttin around town is easier. but beware when u go WOT after the gear swap your ***** will be in your throat.

You got the wrong cam for low end more than likely. My head cam combo makes lots of TQ down low, its all about matching parts. Mine did over 450HP and 415TQ, very torquey and still hauls *** on top.

A set of 3.90's or 4.10 will help you out to stay out of that sluggish area.

What is your head/cam combo?
