Default New guy from AK

Hi guys! I've been randomly surfing this sight for quite a while. This last summer I acquired a 2000 chevy camaro ss and plan on doing some light mods next summer. It is fun and reliable, definately has the look. Since I'm from Alaska it's put away and I can't even think about driving it for another 6 months. Up here there isn't really an speed shops or tuners to take advantage of.
Since we are well into winter up here the car is put away and I am back in my winter ride which is having issues.
It is a Ford but there seems to be a serious wealth of car knowledge in here and even though it's not Lsx specific the same principles apply across the board. So if this is a serious problem I apologize in advance.
Its a F150 4x4 with a 5.4 1.7L kennebell blower, 8# pulley, 42# inj., ported heads, cam spec is 215 int x 215 ex @ .540 lift 114Lsa, full exhaust. The trans is untouched, 3.51 gears, 285/60/18's. The problem being a serious lack of power below 3500 rpm.
Should I just put the stock cams back in and call it good? Would this make a big difference? Do you think that a converter and gears is going to make that big of difference? How loose of a converter would I need? I've ran a 14.4 @ 90mph. Barely shifting out of 2nd gear at the traps. Any advice is welcome. Again sorry if this annoys anyone or is in the wrong section. And thanks in advance for any opinions.

Try over on performance trucks (2nd tab at top of page), probably get more response there. Good luck, I would guess you need a lower gear, 3.73s maybe.

I'd like to do long tubes and a cam this winter. I'm kind of being careful because I don't want to run into the tuning problems with the car that I've had with my truck. I'm not sure how far you can go before you have to get pretty serious tuning. Anything done to your car?

If I were to go with LT's and a small cam how safe would it be to run untuned? I've also found a pretty good deal on 243's locally and am thinking about snagging those. How are the mail order tunes for gm cars? I've only dealt with them for ford and it really is hit or miss. I'd like to reach a solid 400rwhp.

Nice. Mines all stock. wink. wink. I need to get a 12 bolt next before I go to some bigger power.
You can definately run long tubes without retuning. I'm not totally up to speed on how big of a cam you can go. I picked up efi live. So I going to beable to do some tuning. I also have a couple of friends that could tune it also. So don't worry to much about that. Theres a close group of us fbody guys that can help if needed.
Do you drive yours much in the summer?
Who's selling the 243s?

Thanks. I pretty much drive it everyday I can in the summer rain or shine. It's good fun. My old man bought a 02 z06 and he made me a deal I couldn't refuse on his "old" camaro. Speaking of 12 bolt I had my rearend rebuilt and 3.73's put in this summer. I should have just done a 12 bolt. Oh well.

3.73s are a good street gearing. Thats what I'm going to when I get the 12 bolt. These stock 10 bolts are one of the weakest points on f-bodys. The most expensive part about getting that 12 bolt is going to be the over weight truck freight charges. That's why I haven't ordered one yet. It'll be well over $300 just for freight.

I like the 3.73's, especially in 3rd gear. I really want to get to a point where rolling on it in 3rd gear produces traction problems. You might be able to get a pretty decent deal on something like Lynden Transport or yellow freight.

True. But alot of these companys are already set up with shippers and it's like pulling teeth to get them to ship it your way. I've tried that numerous times when I run Burkeshore Marina. Since I had accounts with shipping companies. Pretty much everyone I dealt with would not ship it on my account. So I'm just saving up afew more dollars.
