How aggressive can you go with crane 10308's?

How aggressive can you go with crane 10308's?
I've been looking at a cam swap in the near future, but don't really want to go through the hassle of buying new springs(these have a few thousand miles). I've got a cc306 in the car right now, but Im looking at going with custom grind. How aggressive of a cam can these springs handle? If they really can't do much then Im considering just getting a cc503 since I've heard these springs can handle it fairly well.

I know they can handle a good amount of lift, but Im wondering how aggressive of a cam lobe can the springs handle safely. I've seen the springs used on the cc503 but I don't really know if that's as aggressive as the springs can handle.

I ran them with the cc503 and they were great. They won't be able to work with a cam with more aggressive lobes than that, thats more reserved for the beehives and the patriot springs etc. My custom grind is used with PAC beehives and the lobe aggressiveness is one step up from the "xtreme energy" lobes of the 503. You could always have the custom cam person design your cam around the springs you have so going custom is not at all out of the window.

Which LE cam are you running? I had the LE2.2 with some 918's and never had problems; I've been told the crane's are comparable to those beehives. That's why I was trying to figure out if they really can handle and aggressive lobe.

ive always wondered about this too as i have a set of those very same springs on my Cadillac Cam it has relatively low duration but decently high lift im not sure how aggressive the lobes are but my car seems to run fine and real strong, anyone have any clue if the Cadillac Cam from Speed Inc has lobes that are too aggressive for my springs?

If you set the Crane springs up at 1.750", they will have plenty of pressure to handle XFI lobes and up to .580 lift spinning 6500 RPM. If you just slap them on at the 1.870-1.850 set up ht, they will be too low on pressure and not work well.
I use the same springs (Crane 99893) on my LE1 heads but I use a lighter retainer that has more clearance and works with SA rockers. I also use a set of Comp 4770-16 locators instead of the little shims that the Crane 10308-1 kit comes with.
Nothing wrong with the springs, I just like to upgrane the other parts that come in the kit.

150 lbs on seat and 380 lbs open can handle alot of lobes. I use billet cams so there are no worries about the cam not being able to handle the spring pressure.
The springs are kinda heavy and a steel retainer for a dbl springs is kinda heavy also so I would keep it in the 6500 RPM range with that set up.

The cc306 doesn't have any problems getting through the RPM range, but shifting at 6800 makes me uncomfortable. I would like to keep the shift points under 6500 so I can keep the stock bottom end alive.
Lloyd, is there a limit on valve lift based on installed heights? Also, what advantage is there on swapping out locks/retainers for ti ones?

before I spent $$$ for Ti retainers with these springs, I would just get the Patriot Gold extreme spring, Ti retainer, locks, locator set up for $275.
Ti retainers will drop some weight for you (11g vs 35g) but you are looking at $200 for Ti retainers by them selves. You would still want to use a Com p 4770-16 spring locator ($40)over the shim they use and you are better off selling what you ahve and getting the Patriot Gold Extreme set up.
The Comp CC 306 has some pretty mild lobes. look at the @ .006, .050 and .200 durations and then compare to a more aggressive lobs like one of mine . . .

As you can see, they have the same @ .050 but with only 51 degrees between .006 and .050 and 77 degrees from .050 to .200 duration, the bottom lobe will make more power but also need more spring pressure to control. The lobes I use are assymetrical so it will open more aggressive than the closing but it still closes more aggressive than the upper lobe (CC 306).
The CC 306 is a descent cam since it has alot of durationa dn lobes slow enoiugh to work with lower spring pressure, cheep puchrods, etc, but if you have better valve trane parts, you can make more power with a different cam.
Who ever stes up your heads will need to check coil bind and retainer to seal clearance to make sure that there is enough for the set up ht you need to get the right seat/open pressure.
