Default Need LT1 heads & cam build advice

Background.

Friend just bought a 97 Firehawk as a daily driver. It's LT1 leaks oil from front & rear main seals, oil pan, valve covers and intake. Had and extremely hard time getting all the air bubbles out of the cooling system. An experience mechanic almost couldn't get all the bubbles out. Was hard enough concerns about head gaskets came up etc. Intake and TB are loaded with carbon and the car idles rough. Anyway, it's probably just a question of when the engine gets pulled. The good news is he had a spare LT1 that could be build so it's just a swap out.

He wants a good daily driver set up. The car will see 2-3 trips to the track a year max. He wants to be able to dust LS1 bolt on cars.

The the goal would be 375/375 rwhp, good torque but able to pull to higher than stock and shift at ~6,500 rpm. He's been talking unported Edelbrock heads and Edelbrock intake. Seems like ported stock LT1 heads might be better? He has the $ to spend for LT4 set up and porting those or AFR's and port them etc.

NO RADICAL cam's. He doesn't want to change valve springs a lot. Stock like manners with tuning etc for the idle. No surging etc. This car will see 15,000 to 20,000 miles a year.

The car has no mod's and will need. It's a M6

Catback - needs to be quiet and stealty like the old Dual/Dual
Y-pipe
Headers
Ported Throttle Body
Heads
Cam

All the usuall stuff etc

Thanks for your suggestions.

He should consider his long term goals first (N/A, FI, NOS, street car, race car) before spending any money so he only has to do this once. As far as H/C go have him contact LE or AI they will easily set him up with the componets needed to make or surpass his HP goal using stock heads. He will need a tune, mail order will do PCMsforless or MadZ28 both have good reps and all the standard bolt ons, TB, LT,s CAI, 4.10's. As far as the bottom end goes most would prefer a forged setup and the cost difference really isn't that much. The top end makes the power, the bottom makes it safe and stay together! Whoever does the top of his engine can suggest what parts to get for the bottom. That should easily enable him to take on quite a few LS1's with his only problem being traction and his 10 bolt!

I would probably look at the LE1 package. It would make the power you are looking for and not be too radical.

Llyod does great stuff, when I do H+C my money will go to him. AI is really the only one who can compete, but I would rather go to Llyod.

As for your buddy, he should go with Le2 heads, and a smaller cam. the better flowing heads will make sure he gets 375/375rw. It will also be much more tame, it wont be a dead give away on at a light when the cam pounds the ground.

It should sound a little choppy but nothing crazy. Still should get decent MPG's, driveabiltity.

He should get the rest of the bolt ons, LT's, catback, gears, 58mm tb. Us LT1 guys just buy new TB's, we dont typically port them. Pick up a set of stick tires and pray for not breaking our piece of **** rearend on the street.

The LE2's sounda like the type of head, he would want to run with a milder cam.

Anyone know how the TEA LT1 Stage 2 heads compare?
