What do i need to know before I tune a 98??

the 98's have a back-up ve table and when performing the auto ve process you have to perform the corrections to the back-up table and then to the main ve table.

1998 pcms use a non segmented binary, so if you flash a calibration section from 1 os into a different OS, you will end up with a checksum issue.
On 1998 pcms if you throw a checksum code once, the pcm sets a permanant fault, and it will not provide fuel to the engine, even after reflashing a good file back into the processor.
On the 99+ pcms it is easy to identify the OS and make sure the calibration section matches, so switching files is not a big deal, they also do not set the permanant fault, making the processor a paperweight. (like the 98's)
I will assume this is why HPT says to only use the original file.
