Default My turbo oil drain solution

Pretty much what everyone does but utilizing what you already have. The 20mm hole for the oil level sensor is REALLY CLOSE to 1/2 NPT so I just ran a tap through it. I won't be using that sensor so it just made sense.

I believe you are going to want the return above the oil level. Which at the point that the sensor trips is 1-2 quarts low. Might run into issues at that location.

i dunno man, depending on how high your turbo is i would roll with it. there are worse situations to be in. also remember that the trans is not FULL when the engine is running, couple quarts are through the engine.

pull the pan and put say 4 qts in the pan and see how things are shaping up.

the original qmp kit put the retun though the drain plug hole believe it or not!

I also agree that if the turbo is high enough it will be ok, but if it mounted below the water pump I would move the drain above the oil level.

personally I wanted to build a bomb when I had to pull my pan so I went with the method that has the least amount of issues.

a guy here about a year ago rain the drain 9well the shop did) below the oil level, he had nothing but problems with the drain and smoking, cost him a turbo i think.

Good to know! I might try and pick up a small electric oil pump and put it back through the valve cover.

Not to get off topic but thru a seach I found this thread, is the oil level sensor thread a 20mm? If so is it 20 x 1.5? Thanks.

Thank you, that will get me close enough. Do you remember off hand if it was fine thread? If so that would be 1.5.

Thanks man. All the other bolts/plugs in an LS motor is fine so I would assume that would be fine thread as well. Thanks again for the time really helped me out.

90% of GM's threads are 1.5mm although some are 1.25mm. It looks like it to me. I put the drain there on the 6.0l T76 mustang build and have had no issues with the oil level/back up. But my turbo is 100% above the lower edge of the valve cover. I,m running 5 qts with a F body pan. Like someone said earlier about 1 qt is in the upper engine @ idle and more like 1 1/2 -2 qts under power. Just my opinion. G

Judging by the pic the motor is out of the car.Why not just drill and tap the side of the block above the pan and be done with it?
Good luck.
