Default Optima Red Top

Well my damn AC Delco battery rolled over and died on me this morning. I'm waiting for a buddy to drop by and give me a jump. Then I'm out to buy a battery. A forum search showed everyone was suggesting the Optima Redtop back in the day. Has this battery treated everyone well?

I had a canadian tire knock off of the red top battery in my old 2002 Grand Am GT, no problem I loved it.

They are great if you have a demanding electrical system, for a stock car I wouldn't waste my money.

I have the red top also. The AC delco is crap! The optima can sit for 3 weeks and still be fully charged, while the AC Delco unit would be DOA.

yea changing the battery isnt somethin you wanna do often. i think you have to remove the diagonal brace, unscrew the fuse box, then unscrew the hold down thats at the bottom and slide it or whatever.

Yup. That's about the size of it. I can understand the brace, I mean things like that you can't always avoid. The car has a big old V8, it needs a brace. But the fuse box. That's just poor design.

Yeah, I just changed this battery a week ago! PURE HELL you do have to unscrew the fuse box, and etc. I hated every minute of that ****.

Just replaced my battery tonight - took about an hour by myself. There was almost zero tolerance for the stock battery to come out.

Not a bad design, given you get a V8 in this chassis. Had to do like what was said plus loosen the washer bottle and remove its lid to get the Delco out. The Optima Red 35 just slid in effortlessly. Now see why it had such a small battery compared to the V6's. Advance's website even warned it would be labor intensive.

The stocker died real fast, without any warning. Charged it overnight and it would be dead 4 hours later.

I am changing the Batt this weekend. Before it dies on me. Had this POS AC delco for less than a year. Dealer changed it when my Alt went.
If the car sits for two days car barely turns over 3 days I gotta jump it.
At least the Alt still works LOL.

I have my Redtop from my old L67 swapped into this car. It's still going strong... fantastic stuff those batteries are. I'm wondering if this battery will last for a third car even...

Good plan! I didn't notice the "early warning signs", had to have my car jumped for 5 days before she came in.

I have had 3 of them and never had a lick of trouble (they all outlived the cars). Matter of fact, I put an 8 year old one from my Caprice into my mother's Buick last year and it would light off every time in the -10F temps after sitting for up to a week. Still does.
