Put stock stall back in the Z28....Feels FASTER
I recently had Tick Performance down here in NC put the stock stall convertor back in my bolt-on Z28.
I've posted about the car before, stock it ran awesome 12.95 and made 306 rwhp. I went with FTRA, pulley, pacesetters into catted Y into stock cat-back w/ cutout, SLP lid and ported throttle body and the car made 350 rwhp with the convertor locked on a different dyno. I went with a Vigilante 3600 stall and the car went a somewhat disappointing 12.2 @ 109 MPH on hoosier DRs. I never felt that convertor was a great match for the car. It seems the '01 & '02 cars have less overlap and the cam makes power a bit lower. This car makes very good torque but its pretty much dead by 5600 or so. I think the Vig 3600 with its high shift extensions was a flop. From a roll I was very unimpressed with that stall and I would not recommend it for a combo like mine. That was my 4th stall in LS1 fbodies, and definately the most inefficient. I felt the 12.2 at the track was unimpressive. The weather was quite a bit warmer then went it went 12.95 stock but even so I expected more. The 109 MPH trap speed was horrible. I really think the car would have ran better with a 2800 stall.
I'd really like to run the car again with the stock stall. It won't 60 ft that well, probably high 1.8s but I would expect 110-111 MPH. I'm guessing in great weather it would run 12.4ish or so.
Years back I remember Jersey_TA's car running awesome on the stock stall and him saying how much fun it was on the street. Now I totally understand that and I'm glad I'm back on the stock stall....

Let me get this straight, you went from 12.95 to 12.2 with only difference being converter and weather and you were not happy ??? The stock stall definitely feels better on the street unless you drive like an animal and enjoy the sound of longtubes, no cats , no muffler
at 3600 rpm all the time. I had a vig 3200 for a while and hated it -- it was way to tight for my taste. I just pulled a 4600 for something a little more radical.

454mag, he went 12.95 bone stock and 12.2 with full bolt-ons and the stall.
Kenny H, you're thinking the car will run 12.4's with the stock stall and you're happy going slower? I can see wanting to optimize the stall to run as best you can, but why not wait and get the proper stall? Seems like alot of work to run a slower time.

I think its a little too big for bolt ons I have a custom specced vig around ~3500 and it going to be good enough to grow with the cam going into the car. Maybe you did all of the mods at once and didn't have the thrill of enjoying each gain and it left you more disappointed because of it.
BTW won't vigilante/precision industries restall once for free?!

Same here.
I'm thinking maybe Kenny just didn't have the air or maybe the weight reduction to really let his Vig 3600 shine?
I cut 1.58 (once) and 1.59 sixty foots and still trapped 113mph+ with mine and my bolt on car was also set up very similarly to Kenny's, though I did that in great air as well.
