Where to port and polish my stock 241 heads?
So I have decided to port and polish my stock 241 heads on my 02 z28, and I have been searching the site and looking at alot of our sponsors.
1#-I just wanted to know who you guys would recommend if you had the same job done?
2#-Whats better ,having your heads hand ported ?or cnc ported?
3#-What are the average power gains and is it worth it on a NA bolt-on cam only car?

Tell your buddy to get some track times. His numbers do seem a little skeptical but hes got the info to back it up, and no one has given a good reason why it wouldnt work other than they havent seen it done before. Do you know what they charged him for the head work?

I HIGHLY reccomend Lloyd Elliot. I'm using him to port the heads on my 68 ls1. He will port them to match your setup and goals, not just some program or default port job

And how do you know any 5.3 head would flow better than a 241 head? You have no idea what a good set of 241 heads would flow and you have no idea of the actual flow numbers of the heads you suggested. If you did you wouldn't suggest them, hopefully.

look on the site tsp...
bumps compression too which = more hp over 241's...

.300 208
.400 257
.500 290
.600 312
50rwhp stated on site...

So what if a 5.3 head bumps CR,you can mill any head to gain CR. Beyond that they don't offer a ported 241 head so what are you comparing the 5.3 numbers to? If you had even the slightest clue of anything beyond what you read here you would gtfo. The fact that you would choose a head based on the sellers advertised flow numbers is laughable. If people like you would post less or not at all this site wouldn't be the train wreck of bullshit and misinformation it has become.

Well really if you want better castings just go with ported 243s. If you want better performance than that go with AFRs or better yet Trickflows. It's all relative to the ammount of money you want to spend. I am having my 241s ported because i was told by a very knowledgeable porter that having the 243s ported really arent going to show much improvement over the 241s unless i went with a 2.055 valve which he wouldnt reccomend for my setup. I dont think 241s or 5.3Ls are really better than one another. A Slight bump in compression but thats about it.
Chris you should know better than anyone that flow numbers are like dyno numbers. They dont really mattery as much as your track time. You make 422rwhp but how many other cars do you know that runs 10s with that power level and no cylinder heads?

agreed my dads h/c/i 346 with 5.3 stg 2.5 heads/ms3 runs 10.42 at 127mph...they work pretty well in his car...i know they arent the best head but they are really hard to beat for the money...

You said "you can get a set of stg2.5 5.3 heads that will pump compression and flow better than a set of 241s". Who's 241's are you comparing those 5.3 heads to?And that would be based on what peak #'s? Im not even debating which casting is better.Regardless that's a baseless statement .
