Default Resonator

Hi guys, im new here. Go easy! I've read that a lot of you will take the resonator off of the exhaust on a gxp gp. Is there any advantage or disadvantage to doing so. Im looking for it to be a bit louder, but not looking to sacrifice anything. Thanks

no sacrifice as far as performance or anything like that. For me (08 gxp) there is no noticeable drone in the cabin.
It's a great mod if you don't want to, or in my case can't afford to, get a full exhaust system yet. A reputable exhaust shop should chop it off and replace it with a straight pipe for about 50 bucks.

CUT IT! All good comes from removing it.

This is the single best low cost mod you can do! It gives the car just the right amount of growl without being too loud. Do it!! While you're there have them remove the u-bend as well. That should free up a couple horses for you!

Which u-bend do you mean?

We do have a u-bend. The guys at the shop who did my resonator removal showed me before they cut it out to make sure I wanted them to remove it. It's right behind the cat, but before the resonator. As far as how it looks compared to the u-bend on the old GTP's I don't know, as I've never seen one. Ours is basically a half circle of pipe that looks similar to a u or sideways c.

Does the o2 sensor plug into the u bend?
I ahve a magnaflow cat-back on my GXP and I heared that if you remove the resonator its raspy.

The o2 sensor does plug into the u-bend. My shop replaced the u-bend (and res) with straight stainless up to the split. They plugged the o2 back into this pipe. It works fine!

As far as it being raspy w/o the res, it is not, just deep and throaty. But, I have the stock mufflers, so I can't comment on the Magnaflow. There are others on here who have this combo, and can provide better feedback than I can.

I'll take another look down under the car, I know my o2 sensor plugged into the factory downpipe on my GXP but I don't particularly see any u-shaped bend on it. I'll be putting the factory downpipe on this week, probably make it easier to get rid a bend prior to putting it back on the car.
