Default Gas Gauge Reading Backwards?

I recently swapped out my fuel pump and sending unit as it was bad. Now everything works except my gas gauge is reading Full when i'm Empty and vise verse. I took the sending unit back out and switched the 2 wires that I hooked them up to and still same issue. Anyone know how to fix this?

I bought the sender off a guy from here, he said it would work on my car. Can you put the leveler on backwards and cause this?

i have been out of the game for a minute, but normally, those fuel level senders are resistance based. some will read full at a high resistance, some will read low. what you have to be careful of is that right around the time LS1s were being made, some OEMs(GM included) reversed it, so early cars read full at a high resistance and newer cars read low at hign resistance. they did this so that the guage would "bias" low if anything happened to the sender, so a person couldn't go around thinking they had a perpetually full tank of fuel. and they both are mechanically the same sender. the only physical difference is the resistor array on the body itself. so if you got the wrong one, it would be possible for it to "fit" but read backwards. it would be hard to physically install it backwards because the arm would be hell to get to go in the fuel tank.

yeah i'm leaning towards having a wrong sending unit. Any ideas on how to find the correct part # since this was suppose to be the right one.
