Default rear seat upholstery removal question (upper portion)

so i was just looking at the top of the back seat and i don't see how to remove the handles from the side to get the upholstery off. the handles don't look like they sit square over the bolts underneath and thus they can't be accessed?

do i even need to take the handles off or is there something i'm missing like that little clip that is on there?

here are a few pics of what i'm referring to.

Take a soft mallet or a block of wood and tap the handle down. I just looked at mine and the screw head is right in the middle of the hole.

Hope that helps.

I did my rear upholstery not too long ago and that my friend takes a Torx bit to get it off.
Go to the Hardware store or auto parts store and get a set, they are cheap.
I cant remember right off what size it is but once you see it you will know anyways and it will come in a set.

i thought it was a torx but i have the T30 that i used for the upper part of the back seat to get the seat belt loop off and thats not what that is. there is another T30 torx head screw installed just below there down at the bottom of the seat and it looks nothing like those.

for some reason i'm thinking those are Pozidriv screws?

why the heck would that be on there though?

That definitely looks like Posidriv to me. I used to work on snow skis, and we used Posidrivs on the bindings. I can imagine why GM thought that kind of screw made sense on that latch.

Please post a write-up on the job, I have stitches coming loose in my leather that I was considering repairing as the seat is in good shape otherwise.

i got the rear seat upholstery off the seat except for the area where that piece still on there. i can see part of the bolt sticking through the frame, u wonder if i can use vice grips to get it out from the inside, or ?

i don't really want to destroy the bolt so bad that i can't put that piece back on, but then again someone parting out a car might sell one of those things pretty cheap.
