You have to pass the sniffer yes, but they will still hook up a scanner to your car and check for codes. If you had a code for the EGR/AIR, they won't even let you get on the rollers for the sniffer.

Just to let you know, it is easier to delete the AIR on headers than it is to delete EGR. To delete the AIR injection you just need two M22x1.5 bolts. EGR delete requires a bunch of blockoff plates.
I would suggest looking into MAC mid tube headers, they put down 28 rwhp and sound good. I recently installed these on my car and retained all the AIR, EGR, and put a high flow cat on there. I did this just incase I sell the car to someone like you that needs to do a sniff test.

djjab, your sig said stock, so you don't have header or cat issues to worry about. EGR is enabled between 900 and 2200 RPM, and MAP greater than 36.2 for a stock '94 tune. The ODB1 sniffer test here in GA specifically test 0-25 MPH and 25-45 MPH cruising ranges where the EGR should be activated to decrease NO. I would guess Jersey is similar or close to that. I have tuning s/w so I have varied the on/off RPM/MAP ranges for EGR including turning it off completely. I can honestly say I can't feel any performance or driveability difference at the 25-45 MPH ranges . Since EGR cuts off at 2200 or if MAP falls below 36.2 it does not effect launches, low gear, takeoffs, top end or WOT situations. IMO the gamble that you will flunk the NO sniffer test without it, verses a small if any gain in a stock daily driver are not worth it. ALSO if you keep the cat then keep the air to prevent premature cat failure.

Also, if you already have LT's installed with the emissions stuff hooked up to them, leave it alone, it's not going to rob any power or cause any problems to leave it the way it is. The only reason to delete it would be purely for aesthetics, and you already said you didn't want to deal with any headaches.

thanks for all the in put i will take your advice and put in another cat , put them at the front of the Y. And my reason for asking is the guy doing my work is tring to get me to take it off. Im sure its just because it would be easer for him to work on it

Emission style LT's are a bitch to work on, mainly because the EGR tube and the header connection in the back get's in the way of things, but they will help with the visual.

I failed the Ontario sniffer test with a stock motor and brand new cats because the EGR was not working limit was 400ppm mine was 424ppm. Some longtubes don't create enough back pressure for the EGR to operate properly. Once I put a cam in the motor it created its own EGR function and I didn't have any more issues. Heres some pics of my dual cats

If you lose EGR with a stock cam/heads setup you will probably lose some MPG also... only good reason to do so is it limits the likelyhood of the rear seal of the intake manifold going bad and causing another oil leak... AIR same thing, you gain alot of nothing by doing that other than it looks nicer underhood...
Do it yourself if you must it costs about $12 for the nice plugs at NAPA..
