Default best places to move in Texas

Hey guys. I currently reside in Iowa. Im getting tired of the economy here and just life here in general. Maybe looking for a fresh start and hear that texas might be a good place to go. I hear the cost of living isnt bad, and I have been researching, and it sure looks like housing is a very decent price there. What I would like to know is where are the nicest areas, where are the cheapest areas? Cost of living?? taxes?? Jobs?? I dont have a degree in anything, but currently work for a sign company. I have had construction jobs in the past, pretty decent automotive knowledge, and the ability to learn whatever you set in front of me, and at a pretty quick rate. Thanks in advance for any information you guys can give me! Rodney

I would say Dallas or Houston is your best bet. From what i've noticed there's more of a white collar swing to Dallas, and Houston is more blue collar friendly with some white collar jobs as well. The cost of living here in Houston is VERY cheap, property taxes can vary depending on where you buy your house.

Houston texas, i would try to live anywhere north of 610. cost of living is ok i guess. 1 bedroom apartment your looking at about $500 to $600, 2 bedroom $600 and up. dont know if your planning on getting a house or what, jobs are okay. i hear the construction industry around here is booming. this according to 2 of my uncles, stepfather, and uncle. 2 are HVAC workers, 1 is a concrete layer, and 1 is an electrician and they all say they have more work then ever

Coming from Iowa, you better make sure you don't mind the humidity before settling on Houston. I grew up down there and don't care to move back.

the humidity here is rediculous. The weather patterns through the midwest the last 10 years has been rediculous. I bet there isnt a summer day under 80-85% humidity, and many well over that.

I've been up there in the summer (even camping along the Mississippi) and lived in OK where people bitched about high humidity too, but it still never compared to Houston. Top that off with horse fly sized mosquitoes, fire ants, bad traffic with very agressive drivers and your good to go.

Grand Prairie is a very nice place and the houses are cheap and a lot are fairly new

If you have a construction background, there's still tons of stuff going on in the Houston area and especially along the coast in the wake of hurricane Ike.

And if you are used to the hot, humid climate in the summer, you're going to love Houston.

I wouldn't say hate. I grew up there and don't mind visiting, but I don't care to live there again.

Just don't think that IA humidity levels equal the Houston sweating ***** at 7:00 am humidity levels.

Houston is doing pretty well compared to a lot of other places. Lock down a job before you come and you should be good. And dont forget its the most powerful city in the world

short winters ( i hate the cold ) the only thing thats a real bitch is waking up in the morning being 30 degrees and 80 by noon. and one day being high of 40 and the next 80 lol

Been here all my life and it is HUMID as HELL. Get used to it if that is possible.

Lots of jobs and lots of Mexicans. Learn Spanish and open a taco stand and you are in. I'm kidding.......... Houston,,The Woodlands, Conroe, Spring Clear lake Lake Conroe,, Come on down and make sure your cars have A/c cuz you will need it.
