Default Strange symptom with oil pressure loss when car sits over night

IF the car sits over night when I first start it, the engine acts like the first time it has ever fired. It takes 15-30 seconds and then the gauge pops up. If I go back in an hour and start it again it has pressure right away.

However if it sits over night its back to the no pressure at first and then the gauge comes up. So it seems like it bleeds down over night and loses prime. Does anyone have any idea where it could be leaking down at? My mind is telling me it has to be an orfice thats open somewhere between the pick-up and the oil pump itself which leads me to the o-ring. I replaced it with new and made sure to seat it on there well.

Any help appreciated

Default check valve

Did this start happening after an oil change? Change the filter and try that. It may be letting the oil drain back into the pan.

Had the same problem on a 6 cyl International diesel that I overhauled. After it sat overnight, took forever to fill up the filters. Changed filters and fixed the problem.

Its actually a brand new build. I'll try changing the filter.

Looks like this one has everyone stumped as much as I am.

I've eliminated it down to the o-ring at the pick-up or the check valve at the oil filter. I'll report back with a solution.

Diamond pistons, compstar rods, stock crank with L92 heads in Trailblazer SS with a Magnacharger. Fun little street truck.

Well the oil filter didn't fix the issue. Off to check the o-ring I guess.

What oil pump are you running? What is your normal pressure at idle? Do you know what your bearing clearances are? you may have a cam retainer plate issue or something similar.

Thanks,
Shane
