Question Has anybody painted the hood cowl?

ya know where the windshield wipers are? I was thinking of doing this gloss black super clear cuz I am sick of always using tire shine on it to get it to shine????

I heard smooth/creamy peanut butter works...

add some jelly/jam with some bread and you're set for a snack while you're bringing it back to black.

They say the the peanut butter oil will make the cowl look like new again, the oil sticks to the plastic and protects...idk, I think it would make a lot of mess.

I love PB too much to waste it...lol

Its not that hard to take it off...

If memory serves me right, you'll have to:

take off the wipers

pop those fasteners off

and then take it off.

Ive done it on my car, I HIGHLY recommend using the krylon fusion for plastic rattle cans in satin black. I got mine from walmart for like 3.77 a can. Getting the wipers off is a PITA but I've heard a trick is to get a battery terminal lifter tool and that will pop them off. One of my favorite things I've done to the car appearance wise recently, other than HID fogs.

hlaalu -- did you paint your grill black, or just clearcoat over the plastic?

peanut butter supposedly works great for removing white wax residue on black textured trim. Tropicare had a non silicone tire dressing that worked great on cowl trim.

took mine off a while ago and did this. First I sanded the grain out of them and smoothed them all the way out. Then painted them body color (LPM) Once everything was put back together I just did not like the way it looked for some reason, so I now have it painted flat black. Its more like the factory color of it, but not fadded at all. I will be re doing it this winter again in mabey either semi gloss or high gloss
