Default 26" or 28" tall tire......

Ok so I'm finally pulling the trigger on doing 15s out back. My question is should I go with a 26'' tall tire 275/50/15 or 28'' 275/60/15 Mickey Thompson drag radial?

So far I have been running 275/40/17 MT drag radials...

Thanks,

Matt

I say 26in unless your running out of gear or something . The 28 will give you more roll out for your 60ft but wont be in the power band up top. jmo

What he said ^^^^

Unless you are running out of gear then i would stay with a 26" tall tire. I am running a 28" tall tire on the street and at the track but it is only because on the spray I run out of gear in 4th.

Ok cool. I'm sure by going 15s out back will only benefit me, 60ft and maybe some mph. I go through the traps in 3rd at 6100-6200rpm now with the 17s.

And those 17s are about 1/4 shorter than the 50 series. With 28s you can stage stall and flash convertor as high as you can wich may be around 3800-4000. Well for one how do you launch? what RPM do you leave at with your current tires?

I get my best 60s by leaving off idle, best of 1.57 but normally 1.58s. When I foot brake the car to about 1800rpm cut 1.63-1.60, with best of 1.59.

With the 50s you could launch harder cuz of the sidewall(obviously) but you wou run out of gear with 4:10s. I think there is a calculator on here to better help you. I think its in a sticky at the top. Also check out the drag racing section to see what other Auto guys with your gears and stall some what close too yours run.

I would run the 26" tires for your current setup. If you spray it or add more power down the road, then you should switch to a 28" tire.

Whatever you do go with a 15x10 wheel. That will leave just about any door open to upgrade to a 28" tall tire and will still fit a 26" tall tire perfect.

just add spray for the 28s. I found that on motor my car was best on 26" tires but while on the bottle the 26s got their *** kicked, So I bumped it up to a 28" and was rippin 1.601s fairly constistantly with a T/A only suspension. BTW your car rolls out hard for bolt ons

Pick the size of tire you need based on your cars traction and gearing.
