As I recall, there were 3 video's out there of the chase and the car appeared to run out of gas at the end. Just coasted to a stop, no wreck, not spike strips, just slowed and stopped. Out-ran a bunch of Crown Vic's, maybe a Mustang and a helicopter. Been a while since I saw them though, the old memory might be a bit foggy

Probably awhile. I'm willing to bet the main reason the cops were so far behind was because they were intentionally keeping their distance, which often happens in these cases. Naturally everyone wants to say "omg he was going so fast the cops couldn't even keep up!!" When you have a chopper overhead no need to have a bunch of cruisers also driving that speed, just adds an unnecessary element of danger to the public. Bad enough having one idiot driving 140mph.

If you watched all three clips, there were scenes where you could see it pulling on the Vic's up top on the straight shots pretty good. The P71's run (IIRC) run about 120ish with light-bars and the WX3 LT1 runs comfortably into the upper 140's. It was definitely leaving them in the dust at will.

Yea, but it's slightly irrelevant being that even if they had cars that would rup up that fast, do you honestly think they would have a bunch of cruisers all going 140mph? There are plenty of pursuits in which the cars CAN keep up yet they still keep back. It's just asking for a disaster. Once the suspect is having that much disregard for their own safety and the safety of those around most times they're not going to provoke the guy even more. I've seen clips of LS1 Camaro cruisers chasing vehicles well in excess of 130mph and in more than one the cop loses it and wrecks.
There's absolutely nothing to gain by having the cops stay right up in a pursuit like that.
