Default Timing help needed, NoGO and Chris B please give insight.

The car has only been seeing 21.5 @ WOT after tranny swap. I have an SES light on for sensors that are no longer working due to the TH400. I thought the car was in a limp mode so to speak due to the Low Oil level sensor being broken. I fixed that today and it still sees 21.5 @ WOT. Will the SES light on for tranny solenoids and sensors through the car into a limp mode and allow it to only see 21.5 from the moment i hit WOT til about 6100. From 6100 it will actually see 24 and up to 27.5 degrees of timing. But when i shift it goes back to 21.5 throughout most of the RPM band.

Any insight on this would be great. I can also send my Edit file for you to look at as well.

Thanks a bunch.

Mike

I am not aware of tranny codes throwing the car in to limp mode....

We have done quite a few TH400 conversions in our shop, and I have never had a problem with *limp* mode. However, I do shut off all of the tranny codes.

Does your car detonate?? KR will drop timing. Addtionally, if you have excessive KR during operation your car will kick to the low octane table. This table has a significantly lower timing advance than the high octane table. Are you seeing any KR at all? Are you knock sensors still connected?

I would like to know as well.. I recently got my car back with the TH400 in it. The car was running fine with no codes, then the car overheated. I shut it down, but the next couple of passes it seemed to die out in the upper rpms. I did not get a chance to ATAP at the track, but it does have a bunch of 4l60E codes.

I am not sure if the overheating put the PCM into limp mode, or if the Tranny codes are doing it.

Mine seems to pull fine up to 6000 rpms, then dies off, then when I shift it pulls again......

At WOT the car doesnt have any KR at all. that is what blows my mind. I was thinking it was in the low octane table too but when i use the formula and trace what timing it should be seeing it doesnt cross reference in edit.

The car has no timing (21.5) from whenever i get on it til about 6100. Then it starts to climb up to 24 and eventually 27.5 from 6300 to 6600 where i shift at. How would i go about getting the car out of the Low Octane table if that were true? I always run 93 octane in the car. I never fill up since its not driven all the time. The car has 42lb injectors and i run a 125 dry shot with my F1 cam. If you need any more info please let me know and ill try to help as much as i can.

For what its worth, we have deleted all the codes but there is still one that stays in even after truning it off. its like p1680 or 1860. We reflashed the file into the PCM and it still only sees 21.5 @ wot. I was also thinking that i saw my max torque reading set at 650 or so and i was thinking it might still be trying to pull timing since its set that low kinda like its still seeing TM.
My spark retard limit is set at 22 degrees as well.

Its far from a stock table. I had the tuner look over the car and attempt to fix all the possibilities where it would pull timing from and still to no avail.

I know he has the latest version of Edit. My concern is that he only has the max torque setting at 639. I thought you were supposed to set that at 1000 so you would never see it. How would i know if it was torque management? How would i go abou turning that code off for the transmission? Its p1680 i believe.

NoGo,

Does any of this make sense to you?

Also, we changed the low octane tables to see 28 at WOT and and the timing was still 21.5 degrees for some reason. My spark retard limit is set at 22 and that is where the timing at WOT stayes at til about 6200 then it goes up to 27.5. But i have the knock sensors hooked up and have no KR. Its puzzling me for sure. i have 42 lb injectors and was told that it throws off all my timing tables. But from what i could tell with the 4l60e in the car it was fine. Any help is very appreciated.

Do you have any log files handy? What kind of g/sec values are you actually seeing at WOT. Also what are your IAT's like?

639 is appropriate for a max torque setting, as per Ken Kelly there can be issues setting it higher than that (I do not believe the new version of LS1 Edit will allow you to).

I do have some files handy Chris. Can i email them to you?

Im pretty sure i logged my IAT's at the same time...LOL

I thought about that too, now that you think about it. Zeroing the IAT Vs MAP tables out and see if the timing comes back. I guess that is another try i can do and its simple.

Let me know if i can email you the files. I suppose you'll want the EDIT file and the autotap logs too.?

Sent you an email Chris. With a few logs and my Edit file. Let me know what you think might be off a little and whatever else you think. Hell if you want to make changes go for it. Just send it back as a different file.

Did you ZERO OUT all the torque management setting (not just set max tq to 639)?
