Default One bolt left before trans can come out - PLEASE HELP!!!

I have been following the mdernmusclecars.net trans removal writeup with pretty good success (only one bolt left) except for that blasted top bellhousing bolt. I have tried just about every possible combo of extensions and can't get that ***** to turn. I am afraid I am going to round the bolt head soon.

I have tried two 24" extensions with a swivel connected to the 13mm socket. All I can say is that the swivel is so loosey-goosey that it will not stay on the bolthead. So I used some duct tape to keep the swivel firmer. Didn't help. I was still unable to get the right alignment. I was able to get the socket on the bolt head using the two 24" extensions without the swivel but it was not a straight enough line so the rachet turned but didn't break that puppy loose. I have also tried some shorter extensions without any luck.

I am doing this project in my garage using four jack stands. It seems that the trans is not low enough to get a good straight shot at that bolt. Any ideas on how I can get that bolt out or the trans lower? I have pulled on the tailshaft to see if the trans will go lower, but it ain't budgin. THANKS.

Put a floorjack in the front with a block and try to raise the motor up so that it lowers the trans in the back, thats what I had to do. It was still a pain in the ***, but it can be done.

If you cant hit it with the swivel try a wobble extension instead of a strait extension on the end. If worse comes to worse take your intake off to get to the top one

A swivel socket would be ideal, usually gets right in there.

Remove intake. I run solid motor mounts, so I have to remove it everytime the trans. comes out. I can pull it in about 5min. now.

Or (assuming you have a stock exhaust going by your mods in your signature) remove the pass side cat, look and see, it's probably hitting the frame. Take it out and the engine/trans will drop back more.

If it comes down far enough sometimes the oil pan edge will sit on the k member.

Put some electrical tape on the swivel so it doesnt "swivel" and slip off.

I was able to get the 2 top ones from above without having to remove the intake. Used a GearWrench and pulled with all my might.

You shouldnt have any problem hitting it with a swivel but I think that wobble wil work for ya if you could get a strait extension on it. Let us know how it turns out

if all else fails you can probably take the intake off and someone can reach it from the top with a stubby wrench.

u still have ur crossmember on? if u do just takeit off and let the trans sag down and u can get to it fairly easy that would be the stupidest idea in the world to take your intake off to get to a ******* belhousing bolt

Stupidest Idea in the world, but yet there are many, (including I) that have used it successfully. I just never bothered to put that bolt back in lol.

The crossmember was taken off already. I am hoping the wobble extension will allow me to get that last bolt out. I'm going to try it later today. Thanks.

Thats what I do on my GTO, although it only takes me 10 minuets or less where as the last one I pulled on an Fbody took me FOREVER.

Actually not really stupid especially if your on the ground with limited tools, in some cases you have to (firechikn). like he said it only takes a few minutes. Always a good idea to put all bellhousing bolts back in. It really sucks when you crack one cause it was allowed to flex a little bit. Just my opinion guys.

I was FINALLY able to get that last bolt out and the tranny out. I had to remove the tailshaft and then use a wobble with a 24" extension along with a 8" extension to get the right angle at it. THANKS for the replies
