One bolt left before trans can come out - PLEASE HELP!!!
I have been following the mdernmusclecars.net trans removal writeup with pretty good success (only one bolt left) except for that blasted top bellhousing bolt. I have tried just about every possible combo of extensions and can't get that ***** to turn. I am afraid I am going to round the bolt head soon.
I have tried two 24" extensions with a swivel connected to the 13mm socket. All I can say is that the swivel is so loosey-goosey that it will not stay on the bolthead. So I used some duct tape to keep the swivel firmer. Didn't help. I was still unable to get the right alignment. I was able to get the socket on the bolt head using the two 24" extensions without the swivel but it was not a straight enough line so the rachet turned but didn't break that puppy loose. I have also tried some shorter extensions without any luck.
I am doing this project in my garage using four jack stands. It seems that the trans is not low enough to get a good straight shot at that bolt. Any ideas on how I can get that bolt out or the trans lower? I have pulled on the tailshaft to see if the trans will go lower, but it ain't budgin. THANKS.

Or (assuming you have a stock exhaust going by your mods in your signature) remove the pass side cat, look and see, it's probably hitting the frame. Take it out and the engine/trans will drop back more.

u still have ur crossmember on? if u do just takeit off and let the trans sag down and u can get to it fairly easy that would be the stupidest idea in the world to take your intake off to get to a ******* belhousing bolt

Thats what I do on my GTO, although it only takes me 10 minuets or less where as the last one I pulled on an Fbody took me FOREVER.
Engines under the dash board FTL.

Actually not really stupid especially if your on the ground with limited tools, in some cases you have to (firechikn). like he said it only takes a few minutes. Always a good idea to put all bellhousing bolts back in. It really sucks when you crack one cause it was allowed to flex a little bit. Just my opinion guys.

I was FINALLY able to get that last bolt out and the tranny out. I had to remove the tailshaft and then use a wobble with a 24" extension along with a 8" extension to get the right angle at it. THANKS for the replies
