Default Just trying to get the best setup for the money.......

2001 Z28 m6 70,000 miles

I eventually want to run a good solid built motor with a turbo...I have been looking at possibilities and have come to the conclusion that I want an iron block......? I have been looking at the 370 as far as buying an already to go built motor? The other option that I have recently been contemplating is buying a cheap 5.3....I know I know smaller motor...It is actually against what I have always believed, but for the money I can get one cheap and build it strong, or maybe run it stock???...I just don't know about wiring and I am not too sure on the exact specs of this motor, but I am deep in the research proccess. I am just asking what people have done and tried.....This turbo setup is probably at least a year away due to funding....I guess the questions are;

1. Is the stock 5.3 really strong or do they need to be built...looking for around 700rwhp?

2. Do you end up with wiring problems with a 5.3/ls1 swap?

3. Can I run this much rwhp through a stock shortblock or will it need to be built?

4. If it needs to be built anyway should I just go ahead and go with the 370 crate motor?

Thanks for all of the answers in advance and feel free to email me or pm me if you are a sponsor or have any details or links on this subject, but like I have already stated my funding would be a little short for a while(baby on the way).

700 rwhp

I know no one wants to here this but i know of a guy here in michigan that dyno'd 825 rwhp on a junk yard 6.2 escilade moter. never opened up. stock cam stock everything

19 psi single turbo on race gas. this engine has been alive for 2 years.

these ls series engines are way more bad *** than they get credit for.

stock bottem ends good for 7k plus rpm's

I have put 38k on my 04 gto with 1 short block replacemeant due to me after a long road trip doing 3 back to back 165mph runs 1 qt low on oil not knowing it.

i replaced the shortblock with a gm take out 12k mile ls1 short block for 600 bucks

put a stock short block in with some good heads ,cam and tb and run the hell out of it

I can relate to the damage done by me not checking my oil as much as needed. I had a lifter failure and I hate to admit it but looking at the oil level and the color of the oil.....well lets just say I am an idiot, but lesson learned...

thanks lets keep the ideas going

i am going to spin my short block till it fails just because i can

the cam and valve train is good to 7500 when it fails i will put a fresh gm take out short block back in

i guess i am doing destructive testing on these engines beause i am amazed what they will take in stock form

and more amazed how much money peaple spend on them and get less than they can produce in stock form

good for sponsers but bad for the owner that bought a **** ton of parts he did not need

I spray 150 every weekend on a bone stock bottem end shifting at 72-7300 every gear

bone stock but yet for thousands more you can do the same

just my .02

Can you simply pull an ls1 out and drop a 5.3 in and it works or do you need to rewire or what? will it work with the stock computer?....sorry if these are dumb questions, but I am not great at researching...still trying though

I was also thinking of the Schwankes iron 5.3/5.7 that looks like a good way to go.

replace the rod bolts and you should be fine for a while, when it goes get a forged 383 stoker kit and spray the hell out of it
