Default someone plz tell me this is piston slap

sorry if this is in the wrong section i'm guessing the closest that i can determine.

every day i have noticed that i have a ticking going on while start up. I have herd that piston slap is pretty popular among the ls1 motor but this winter is the first time i have herd it and i have had the car for 3 years. The sound definitely sounds like metal against metal ticking tho.

The sound only occours while the car is moving at around 1,500-2,000 rpms upon acceleration. I have some codes that are being thrown but i haven't had a chance to fix them after the LT install, and have not gotten a chance to run another check on new codes.

any advise would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks in advance guys/gals

oh and by the way its only while the motor is cold, around half way till operating temp the car stops the ticking noise.

If it started after your LT install, you'll want to make sure that you don't have an exhaust leak. That will cause you to hear valvetrain noise and it will get better as things warm up and seal up.

Piston slap has a deep sound, almost like a spun bearing but nowhere near as loud. The engine sounds diesel-like. Here is my experience with my cars FWIW:

I would say my A4 car has piston slap - a deep tapping sound when cold. It was there before, but has gotten much worse this winter for some reason. It goes away after 2-3 transmission shifts as I drive off cold.

My M6 engine is very noisy cold. The car has to be run at normal operating temp for at least 10 minutes before it diminishes. I don't know if it's valvetrain noise or piston slap. If I let the car idle for half a minute after start-up before driving away, it lessens it quite a bit. It doesn't sound as deep as the A4 car, but it makes the same "aaarrrhh" sound as it revs into the 2000 rpm range as the A4 car does cold.

sounds like an exhaust leak to me ive got the same noise and its from my exhaust gasket being cracked and it goes away when it gets warm, it doesn take long for the oil to circulate and get to the cylinder walls even in the winter it definitely wouldn take until the car got warmed up to hit the walls

its weird and dose not sound like a deisle it sounds like its coming from the far side of my dash board. definitely metal against metal tho.

i had a pretty aweful exhaust leak a while back and paid a guy that dose good work to make sure it had no leak.

does any one elses car only slapping while the car is under a load? not while idle or revving?

Maybe try to get it on video for everyone, or someone who knows they have piston slap video it so you can hear.

just remember that after adding headers, valvetrain noise becomes very noticeable because of the thinner material

idk i think its just me being paranoid, ive never herd the clicking before but i guess it is very possible that im just crazy lol.

i do have a slipping clutch and have not gotten a chance to install the new kit yet, is it possible that the messed up clutch could cause the sound?

piston slap im pretty sure. my car gets it when cold then after about 5 min. warming up it goes away. it almost sounds like a valvetrain noise like a lifter ticking or a very faint rod knocking sound and its worse the colder it is outside when started and worse under load and most notable between like 1300-2000 rpm. if you notice this its best to let the car warm up till it goes away before driving off (you should always do this anyway, even w/out piston slap) but driving while the pistons are slapping is hard on piston skirts...

My engine has nasty piston slap when it's cold. It takes a while to warm up and won't warm up very well if I don't let it warm up before I drive off.
