Question Best Oil Pump to use?

Whats the best oil pump to use? 383 Ltx, canton road race pan and pickup. Are the Melling 10552 pump and shaft good? Or M155HV?

Sounds like a similar setup to what I'm running. I'm running the 10554 with the 20-023 pickup from Canton with the 242T. I highly suggest you use the Melling select pumps. They use a thicker casting where they mount to the engine. The regular HV55 models use a thinner casting, and under vibration (whether from solid motor mounts or similar) have been known to fail.

The HV55 is fine, IMO, for moderate power, but for reliability go with the 10554.

I use 10552s on my setups that use a stock pan, as it is only a 10% volume over stock... Probably could go with the 10555 with the extra capacity of the canton pan...

the list the 10552C and 10555C as anti-cavitation designs, which means you won't get a pressure drop above 4500rpm, but for some reason they list them only as a race pump... Probably because they will produce lower pressure than normal at lower RPMs due to the anti-cavitation grooves...

10554 with the GM white spring is a good all around setup for most. The proper canton pickup for that setup is the 20-023, just be sure to braze or weld the pickup on...don't rely on press-on pickups.

I'll go with the 10552 if you can bolt the pickup on and weld and the 10554 you cannot bolt.

Will a GM Pump (NAL-93442037) work with the canton pick up tube? I know it will press fit in, I want to bolt the pick up on thought. So just need to know if I can bolt the pick up on the gm pump like the melling 10552?

Yes it will. I have the gm HV pump along with the Canton. It's been on for over 2 years now on my DD AI set up with no issues.

so the canton pick up bolts on the gm pump listed? (nal-93442037) And is just as good or better as the 10552 Melling Pump.

Apparently, the Canton pick-up has a tab that uses one of the bottom plate bolts to keep it from coming loose.

The GM pump is going to be like the normal Melling casting (Melling makes GMs pumps). The Melling Select series 10552 (and others with the long number) have the more robust casting in the mounting area that is less prone to breakage on an engine that will see more severe duty.
