need help fast! wont start after cam install
I put in my gt2-3 cam, ls6 springs, and hardneded pushrods, followed the guide at ls1tech to a T. especially making sure my timing chain was lined up correctly and everything else in the guide.
now I try to start the truck and all it does is crank, wont turn over. Its definately getting fuel because I can smell it, how do I check for spark?
i am going to try and loosen the rockers, maybe I put them on too tight so it cant build compression. i think they may be too tight because my torque wrench is 1/2" and the only 10mm I had was 1/4 and no converter...
any other suggestions please help, I need my truck working by tonight
truck is a 2004 silverado with a 5.3 lm7

You'll need to be two people to check the spark unless you have a timing advance light with long wires.
To check without the timing advance light, pull a plug, and look at it while someone cranks.
You'll need to ground the plug somehow (just touch the block with it), and you should see a small blue spark.

The connectors to the coli package is connected, right? And you have adjusted the valves correct to the new cam? All connectors are OK? maybe the valves are all open, if they are adjusted to hard?

replace the plugs, do a compression check while your at it. Double, no triple check all of you electrical connections especially at the coil pack harness. There is no reason your motor would lose compression with that cam unless you installed the cam backwards and bent the valves. It is very hard to verify the dot to dot if the oil pump is still installed, are you positive you got it right? I used a camera to verify mine. Its hard to get your head angled just right to see for 100%. The valves arnt adjustable in a ls1. you just tighten and go... even if the torque wasnt right on the rockers it would run regardless.
Do you have a scanner on you to absolutely verify there are no codes? Could be a fluck thing like a crank sensor or cam sensor went out... A scanner will make everything easier as it will tell you if you missed something obvious.
Are you sure the cam you bought is compatible with your engine? I believe earlier years had the cam sensor in the back and newer years have the cam sensor on the front... Your engine is right around the point they switched it i believe? im not positive on that though, but something to check into. I know they changed it from the ls1 in the back to the ls2 in the front..

I found my problem.
Short answer, Im a dumbass.
Long answer is my cam gear was not lined up properly with the crankshaft gear. On the instructions it said to line up the holes, well mine didnt have a hole so I figured it meant the cam stud (that little piece that sticks out of the cam into the gear) since there is a hole in the gear for it that is not lined up with the other 3. I didnt realize this error until got-a-ls1 showed a picture and i realized I was lining up the wrong hole. Instead of a hole on my cam gear it was a little indention near the teeth so with the chain on you cant notice it.
After taking the whole thing apart, again, and lining those up properly this time, and putting everything back together, she started first try and idles fine.
Thanks for all your help guys.
